Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and standards, applicable laws and regulations; assist the Lead Mechanical Engineer in establishing/updating section policies and procedures
• Support the Lead Mechanical Engineer in providing inputs to the proposals department (e.g. man month requirements etc.) regarding the contribution of the Mechanical section to projects
• Assist the Lead Mechanical Engineer in the evaluation of proposals submitted by sub-consultants during RFPs issued by Company in order to recommend sub-consultants to owners/clients
• Understand owner/client design requirements prior to the commencement of any design project; coordinate with the Lead Mechanical Engineer and other architects & engineers for further clarifications on design requirements
• Prepare data collection reports and ensure that they are reviewed by the Lead Mechanical Engineer
• Develop design concepts for projects and review the same with Lead Mechanical Engineer
• Coordinate effectively with other architects and engineers throughout project lifecycles (planning, concept, preliminary, final etc.); review and understand their drawings and specifications to ensure that adequate provisions in Mechanical designs are made based on the designs provided by the other sections
• Coordinate and follow-up with Project Architect / External Consultants used for Mechanical system requirements
• Coordinate with team members effectively to ensure that all projects progress as planned in order not to cause project delays or budget over runs; ensure to update the Lead Mechanical Engineer with regards to progress in design
• Establish design input values for the project’s load calculation and carry out heating, cooling or any other load calculations using relevant software
• Analyze calculation output for accuracy using check figures and ensure compliance with local codes
• Carryout smoke ventilation system design and calculations to comply with Fire Department
• Highlight to any issues in design that could not meet the local codes to the Lead Mechanical Engineer
• Consult the Lead Mechanical Engineer for gaining any technical guidance as and when required
• Prepare the BoQ, and specifications and forward the same to the Quantity Surveying department for the preparation of contract documents
• Assist the Lead Mechanical Engineer in preparing responses / transmittals to project’s Request For Information (RFI) from contractors
• Provide drawing inputs to draftsman with sketches and markups to prepare AutoCad drawings
• Maintain continuous quality control on all drawings produced under the section, ensuring that they adhere to Company quality standards
• Assist on site Mechanical engineers by responding to technical queries which they raise; assist site staff in verifying sample materials submitted by contractors (as and when required) to ensure compliance against ministerial requirements and specifications
• Attend site meetings (e.g. progress meetings, coordination and specially called meetings etc.) as and when required
• Remain abreast on changes in local ministerial requirements regarding Mechanical systems
• Meet authorities to explain the smoke ventilation, fire and safety system and obtain approvals
• Meet Ministry of Electrical and Water review engineers to explain the project calculations and to obtain approvals
• Protect the confidentiality of all designs within the section at all time

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Master is a big plus
• Professional accreditation in Design
• 10 to 12 years of experience in a similar role
• Certification/Membership of Society of Engineers
• Full proficiency in using Revit and/or BIM modeling software a plus
