Job description / Role
The food Compliance SME is responsible for the compliance of Ecolog’s food products for all food related contracts and to ensure Ecolog complies with the varied Standards and Specifications defined by our clients.
- Monitor compliance with applicable regulations, industry standards, and internal food safety policies and procedures across all food contracts/regions
- Reviewing raw materials and other ingredients from suppliers
- Cross checking, compiling, approving product specifications and labelling from suppliers against clients requirements
- Converting/translating laboratory reports for procurement and senior management of product compliance that addresses issues of food safety and quality across the product range
- Managing the external audit program of suppliers for production/supply compliance as well as hygiene, factory systems and quality control standards
- Managing and following up on supplier external audit CAPs
- Reviewing NCRs raised by sites and providing feedback to both Management and clients
- Assist with new product development and specification
- Handling at corporate level product complaints and conducting investigations
- Undertaking long-term projects with other departments,e.g. reducing waste by improving packaging efficiency
- Reviewing food security and product safety
- Undertake basic and applied research into aspects of food processing, food preservation, food quality, food deterioration, packaging, storage and delivery
- Liaising and cooperating with technical, commercial colleagues in procurement and distribution and also with official food inspection and hygiene agencies
- Testing and examining samples
- Compare products with those of other brands and participate in surveys that provide information to management about new products and market trends
- Provide technical guidance for the transportation of foodstuffs such as fruit, vegetables and milk, as well as inspect for spoilage and quality deterioration
- Be able to travel to remote locations frequently
Requirements
- University degree or comparable qualifications food science/technology
- Fluent in English language, other languages would be an advantage
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent computer skills
- Excellent analytical skills
- Must possess intercultural skills and demonstrate ability to effectively work with all levels of company personnel and external clients
- Able to work under pressure
