Managing QS - Pre Contract Services Division - International PQS Practice - Kuala Lumpur

Managing Surveyor (Quantity Surveying & Cost Planning Services) - Leading multi-disciplinary consultancy in Malaysia

This critical Managing Surveyor role is required to lead and manage the Quantity Surveying & Cost Planning Services team of a leading multi-disciplinary consultancy based in Malaysia, but with a footprint across SE Asia, Australia and into the Middle East.

The role will be predominantly based in Malaysia, however a further office in another major SE Asia city is planned within the next 6-12 months – this will be managed by and form part of the Managing Surveyor’s remit. The role will report directly into the business Directorate and has excellent scope for personal progression as the company goes through its next significant period of growth in terms of geographical location and sector spread

Reporting into the Directors in Malaysia, the successful individual will head up the Pre-Contract Services Unit which currently consists of 10+ Quantity Surveyors, MEP Engineers and Cost Engineers. It is intended to double the size of this service offering in the next 12 months.

This division is currently involved in a large number of major commercial projects including the likes of; High Rise, Office, Retail, Hospitality, Industrial and Education Developments as well as civil infrastructure, rail and aspects of the oil & gas industry sectors, carrying out of quantification, Bill preparation, cost planning and other related tasks.

The role will encompass an array of key duties including managing the Quantity Surveying & Cost Planning services team, direct client interaction, marketing and business development, technical development, preparation of internal cost plan, cashflow, resource management, staff training and development and assisting in further growth strategy.

Requirements

- MEP qualification allied to Quantity Surveying is preferred, but not essential.
- You will have at least 7-10 years post graduate experience in MEP/PQS/QS Consultants and ideally some time working for a Contractor and/or Clients.
- Experience on a wide range of industry sectors is highly preferred.
- Ideally you will hold a QS related degree and be MRICS accredited however this is not a pre-requisite.
- You will ideally be a Western Ex-pat who has either worked in Asia previously, or who is willing to be permanently based in Malaysia.
- Strong communication skills are essential as you will be dealing directly with the Client, Engineers and Sub-contractors alike.
- Strong cost planning skills and the ability to prepare detailed estimates based on developed documentation is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with CostX measurement and/or other measurement and estimating software is preferred.
- Experience in developing systems, processes and procedures for delivery of consistent quality of product and to develop the best practice.
- A dynamic, energetic and structured individual who has the ability to lead change and introduce innovative ideas and methods into the business.
- Ability to identify additional skilled and experienced personnel to develop and enhance the current services team.
