Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Reporting to the Shift Charge Engineer and ultimately to the Operations Manager. The Control Room Operator will be responsible for plant operations within the Operations Shift Team to ensure the plant meets the required availability, reliability, efficiency, generation and cost targets, safely and within strict environmental limits.

This will include regular equipment start-ups, shutdowns, changeovers and regular operation / monitoring, as well as responding to alarms and emergency conditions and initiating troubleshooting.

The role will require a detailed understanding and practical experience of the technologies associated to operating a modern combined cycle power plant having Gas Turbines, steam turbine plants, and a wide range of auxiliary equipment.

Requirements

- A degree in Electrical, C&I or Mechanical Engineering (or) Industrial, military, marine or utility training in power generation (or) Accredited Engineering Diploma will be suitable if accompanied by the relevant experience.
- Thorough understanding of modern CCGT plant practice.
- Experience preferred in CCGT, Gas Turbines, and a wide range of auxiliary equipment.
- Experience with Siemens V94.3A gas turbines and / would be a particular advantage
- Good foundation and practical knowledge of power plant operations, preferably including electrical systems
- Power plant engineering concepts
- Ability to operate the plant efficiently within a varying range of load conditions
- Ability to control incidents in a range of situations
- Good command on the English language
- Computer literacy
- Possesses the ability to liaise with external organizations
- Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build and work with multi-cultural staffs.

- Seek, organize and exchange information for decision making and problem solving
- Quality and environmental awareness and managing according to quality standards
- A pro-active approach to planning and decision making.
