Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

• Examine eyes, using observation, instruments and pharmaceutical, to determine visual acuity and perception, focus and coordination and to diagnose diseases like color blindness or other abnormalities that may impair vison.
• Prescribe, fit and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses (soft and RGP) and other vision aids
• Educate and council patients on contact lens & usage, eye hygiene, lighting arrangements and safety precautions.
• Provide patients undergoing eye surgeries such as refractive laser surgeries or intraocular surgeries, with pre- and post-operative care.
• Prescribe therapeutic procedures to correct or conserve vision.
• Provide vision therapy and low vision rehabilitation/ aide.
• Providing efficient skills in refracting eyes with special conditions including keratoconus and strabismus and its treatment plan.
• Provide pre-surgical refractive Nomogram.
• Taking & recording related patients medical and ophthalmic history
• Recording distance and near visual acuity accurately.
• Objective and subjective eye testing.
• Performing objective refraction, especially retinoscopy, and detecting and correctly reporting any abnormalities using the retinoscope reflex.
• Performing subjective refraction and mastering all the related techniques.
• Performing additional optometric tests when indicated, including color vision test, cover test, manual keratometry, pupillary reaction, near point of convergence, and others.
• Knowledge of ophthalmic procedures and screenings
• Knowledgeable with ophthalmic machines, its uses and interpretation as follows:
• Corneal topography / Oculyzer machine
• Ultrasound A & B scanner
• IOL master & calculation
• Visual field test (Humphrey analyzer)
• Optical coherence tomography
• Keratometry, Endothelial cell count by Specular microscopy.
• Visual imaging (Fundus photography and Fluorescein angiograms).

• Ensure patients confidentiality is maintained at all times in accordance with FEC protocols and policies.
• Follow established FEC policies, procedures and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives and safety environment and/or infection control standards
• To be patient in dealing with customer/ patients of all age groups, responding promptly to comments, complains or issues raised by patients
• Contribute to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
• To be knowledgeable with computer systems and Solver Hospital system

About the Company

Finland Eye Center is the first venture in Oman and the Middle East by a Finnish group of medical field experts who have already established several eye centers within Europe. The main branch in Qurum, Muscat was inaugurated in 2007 with additional branches in Sohar, Salalah and Al Khoudh following suit in 2010, 2011 and 2015 respectively. Due to increased demand, the FEC Muscat branch relocated to the current, larger premises in March 2012. FEC provides comprehensive ophthalmic care from the cornea to the retina from eye examinations to a full range of surgeries in our own state-of-the-art Operating Theater, making FEC the largest private eye care center in the Sultanate with nearly 40,000 patients to-date at the Muscat branch alone.
