Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Purpose:
- To provide functional leadership and development to the Maintenance teams over 3 sites , and support to the Factory Manager and the manufacturing teams to enable the implementation and development of world class manufacturing standards and continuous improvement and TPM practices.
- To lead, drive and support engineering and other manufacturing projects to enable them to be completed on time and in budget.

This role will report directly to Group Operations Director.

This role will functionally manage the 3 Maintenance Managers at each of the Company’s sites and indirectly manage the wider teams at these sites. The number of indirect reports will be 20 – 30 people.

In addition this role will manage a team of Project Engineers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manufacturing Excellence:
- Develops, Proposes and implements policies, procedures and programs related to Engineering department.
- Ensure across sites that the Planned Maintenance for Equipment, utilities, etc. are properly formulated and audit the adherence to the same.
- Working with the manufacturing, operations and quality manager, reviews and monitors quality and process improvements and new product development.
- Ensure across sites that the Planned Maintenance for Equipment, utilities,…etc. are properly formulated and audit the adherence to the same.
- Assists factory manager in preparation of accounting records for budgetary, production efficiency or other such purposes
- Guide local team on budget exercise to management, including staff use, technology, facility and equipment requirements or improvements.
- Introduce the Best practices in the industry for Engineering across the sites, using Lean manufacturing Tools and TPM KPI (s) Maintenance cost / Ton, MTBF, MTTR, BD% To LT.
- Effectively participating / Leading the Focus Improvement group / Autonomous maintenance committee / Early Management Task force on the sites.
- Working on synergy across the manufacturing sites by transferring best practices, motivation the competition across different sites for excellence, Encouraging Kaizens, FI activities….etc.

Project Management
- Plans and formulates aspects of research and development proposals such as objective or purpose of project, applications that can be used from findings, costs of project, and equipment and human resource requirements
- Oversees key projects, processes and performance reports, data and analysis. Plans documentation system.
- Selects correct design concepts and fundamental technology used for new products or improvement for existing ones in co-ordination with RD department and packaging development.
- Preparation and submission of Capex write up to determine if benefits derived and possible applications justify expenditures.
- Submits proposals considered feasible to management for consideration and allocation of funds or allocates funds from the department budget.
- Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring projects such as preparation of records of expenditures and research findings, progress reports, and staff conferences to inform management of status of each project.
- Reviews operations and plans to meet requirements for sales planning and to ascertain engineering requirements to develop new markets.
- Negotiates contracts with consulting firms to perform research or other applicable studies or support.

People Leadership & Development
- Lead, develop, inspire and motivate reports to attain Excellence in manufacturing environment and drive an upward improvements in the team’s skills and performance.
- Build effective team and cross functional team working relationships, particularly with Adopt a modern inclusive engaging leadership style, and create a supportive working environment where employees feel involved and believe they can offer input and improvements.
- Conduct annual performance reviews in line with Company policy and other regular performance review meetings with members of their teams regarding performance expectations, standards, attendance etc., ensuring their wider teams capabilities and performance are constantly improving.
- Ensure the team are regularly briefed, feedback is sought and employee contributions are maximised.
- Responsible for improving the team’s performance and capabilities, and delivering the team’s training and development plans.
- Recruit and develop talent and team members ensuring employee contributions are maximised and develop a talent pool for succession planning.

Health & Safety
- Lead and inspire the team in establishing a safety first culture.
- Ensure the team are communicated to regarding the Company’s Health and Safety standards and how we expect our employees to behave and carry out their jobs in a safe manner at all times.
- Support all safety initiatives and lead the team in achieving and exceeding Health & Safety targets.

ROLE PARAMETERS

Financial Responsibility
- Project Budgeting and adhering to allocated approved funds for completion of the projects in time as per requirements.
- Guidance of the Maintenance team / Assistance of the factory manager on Maintenance cost/ton as well as Spare-parts stock in-line with RCM practice and criticality study.

The role holder will normally work normal office hours, (8.00 am to 5.00 pm Sunday to Thursday) although will be expected to work such hours as required to ensure the responsibilities of this role are fulfilled. In addition, the role holder may be required to travel and work during evenings and weekends.

Requirements

- Degree in Engineering (Mechanical / Electrical / Industrial).
- Minimum 10 years’ experience of which at least 5 years handling similar role/position.
- Previous experience of leading and developing teams
- Experience of working with and managing multicultural teams
- Experience in an fmcg manufacturing environment with preferably a minimum 5 years food industry experience.
- Hands-on knowledge and experience with Lean manufacturing practices (TPM)
- The ability to envisage projects and the steps, milestones, obstacles and risks contained within the project
- The ability to lead, manage and develop a team
- The ability to lead, coach and develop a team to best practices.
- Be flexible and adaptable, change direction when required and step in and drive projects and teams to enable obstacles to be overcome and results achieved.
- Analytical skills and problem solving techniques.
- The ability to communicate at a variety of levels and influence and impact decision making in a constructive and value added manner.
- Ability to work in Global environment and adopt do different cultures and conditions.
- Agility and discipline on meeting deadlines, able to work under pressure.
- Adherence to Projects Timelines and budgets.
- Excellence in Maintenance functions across sites (TPM KPIs, Robust Maintenance plans and procedures.
- Excellence for SHE practices and systems across the operating sites.
