Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Job Purpose:
- Provides protection for Sohar Aluminium property and follows procedures for overall security of the smelter site.
- Protects Sohar Aluminium personnel and property from injury, fire, theft, or other loss.
- Serves as member of Level 2 Emergency Response Team in case of damage, fire, injury, rescue, or other loss.

Key Responsibilities:
Deliver Plant Protection services and maintain effective relationships with appropriate stakeholders.

Fire Prevention and Response Capability
- Perform routine inspection of firefighting equipment such as alarm systems, sprinkler systems, extinguishers, hydrants, fall protection equipment
- Monitor Sohar Aluminium radio communications to provide appropriate support, where necessary, e.g. confined space entry or rescue, lone worker
- Train site personnel on fire, security or first aid principals and permit systems e.g. fire warden, fire extinguisher
- Maintain and operate fire truck pumping systems, and have the ability to drive the fire truck
- Inspect and test SCBA cylinders and re-fill breathing air cylinders when empty
- Inspect and maintain fire fighters “turn out” gear (helmets, jackets, pants, boots, suspenders etc.) Respond to emergency situations, and provide the necessary assistance whenever needed
- Monitor level 2 fire system, and rectify troubleshooting
- Participate in scheduled and unplanned drills

Rescue
- Is capable of using knots and lines to rescue victims from elevated areas such as water tanks, overhead cranes and silos
- Is capable of using tripods for confined space rescues, such as ABF pits excavations etc.
- Conduct search and rescue
- Perform routine inspection of rescue equipment and report on any damage.

EHS
- Supports various safe work permit systems, e.g. hot work, confined space, working in heights.

HAZMAT
- Responds to hazardous material incidents develops action plans and contains and cleans-up the HAZMAT spillage
- Liaises with the environment section/EHS to coordinate with the environmental agency for clean-up and decontamination of any spillage exceeding 100Ltr.

First Aid
- Is licensed and competent to provide emergency first aid treatment to personnel in support to the health department

Action the SA Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) procedures to maintain high EHS standards
- Action the SA EHS safety routines for his/her work area
- Action regular inspections to ensure safety. Raise notifications
- Maintain SA housekeeping standards (5S) in his/her work area

Requirements

- A Diploma in a related field,
OR
- High school or equivalent with 4 years work experience in a related field

- Fire fighter training or certification is essential

Essential experience and skills:
- General firefighting training and experience, First aid and security training, a valid drivers license and hazardous goods training is required.
- Experience in an administrative role with government liaison
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills

Generic Skills:
- Language: Fluent in English and Arabic. The Job-Holder must be able to communicate effectively in written and spoken English and Arabic and be able to read and understand business documents in English and Arabic
- EHS: The Job Holder is required to learn, understand and continuously execute the basic EHS policies and procedures which are required in an industrial environment
- SAP: The Job Holder requires:
- Well-developed technology skills including strong Microsoft office skills
- The capacity to action the relevant modules in SAP, including leave requests and purchase requisitions.

Sohar Aluminium was formed in September 2004 to undertake a landmark Greenfield aluminium smelter project in the Sultanate of Oman and is jointly owned by Oman Oil Company, Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC - TAQA and Rio Tinto.
