Employment: Full Time

Security officers should be responsible and accountable for administration of the security program. At a minimum, they should directly manage or oversee the risk assessment process, development of policies, standards, and procedures, testing, and security reporting processes. To ensure appropriate segregation of duties, the information security officers should report directly to the board or to senior management and have sufficient independence to perform their assigned tasks.

Security officers should have the authority to respond to a security event A security event occurs when the confidentiality, integrity, availability, or accountability of an information system is compromised. by ordering emergency actions to protect the financial institution and its customers from an imminent loss of information or value. They should have sufficient knowledge, background, and training, as well as an organizational position, to enable them to perform their assigned task.

Senior management also has the responsibility to ensure integration of security controls throughout the organization.

To support integration, senior management should
- Ensure the security process is governed by organizational policies and practices that are consistently applied,
- Require that data with similar criticality and sensitivity characteristics be protected consistently regardless of where in the organization it resides,
- Enforce compliance with the security program in a balanced and consistent manner across the organization,
- Coordinate information security with physical security, and
- Ensure an effective information security awareness program has been implemented throughout the organization.


Description Strategy
- Security officers protect people and property, and maintain crowd control.
- Security officers may perform the following tasks:
- patrol areas and check doors, gates and windows for signs of unauthorized entry
- watch for irregularities (such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, lights left on, equipment malfunctions, unlocked security doors) and report incidents or problems to the appropriate authority
- record times of inspections and presence of authorized persons
- respond to alarms and check alarm systems
- observe and report suspects to police, or apprehend offenders when appropriate and detain them until police arrive
- monitor computer alarm systems, closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems and communicate by radio with mobile units to attend alarms
- issue security passes, give directions and make security arrangements for authorized visitors
- detect and report fraud, shoplifting and other unlawful acts by employees or patrons of business establishments
- provide armed protection for specific organizations (banks, for example)
- Provide assistance to the public and clients.

Operational
- Develops in association with the organization's Information Security and/or Privacy Committee the information security policies and procedures.
- Implements the organization's information security policies and procedures.
- Coordinates the information security compliance activities.
- Provides direct information security training to the workforce.
- Monitors compliance with the organization's security policies and procedures among employees, contractors, alliances and other third parties and takes corrective action. Manages information security incident response.
- Monitors internal control systems to ensure that appropriate information access levels and security clearances are maintained.
- Performs information security risk analysis and periodic information system activity reviews for information security processes.
- Coordinates the development of the organizations disaster recovery and business continuity plans for information systems, and tests readiness.
- Serves as an internal information security consultant to the organization.
- Monitors advancements in information security technologies.
- Monitors changes in legislation and accreditation standards that affect information security.
- Initiates, facilitates, and promotes activities to foster information security awareness within the organization.
- Serves as the information security liaison for users of clinical, administrative, and behavioral systems.
- Reviews all system-related information security plans throughout the organization's network and acts as a liaison to the Information Systems Department, privacy officer, and Security and Privacy Committees

Health, Safety, Security and Environment
- Monitoring security compliance with the organization’s HSE policies and procedures among employees, contractors, alliances, other third parties and liaising concern issues to dedicated authorities

Requirements

A security Officer must have experience as a security guard, police officer or military police.
- Training and experience working with electronic monitoring systems.
- Minimum experience required is 5 – 7 years within the administrative function preferably within oil industry.
- Having 2 -3 years supervisory experience.
