Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

- Operates, controls and maintains a steady state of operation of one more process units and related equipment in the most safe and efficient manner to meet required throughput, maximize yield and meet required quality specifications. Handles all unit emergencies Ensures the operations are in accordance with established procedures and instructions.
- Uses established policies and procedures, as well as operating knowledge, to ensure activities are performed in a safe and an environmentally correct manner.
- Works safely and promotes safe work practices of employees, contractors and others within their respective work areas to ensure a safe work environment.

Requirements

- Diploma preferably in Chemical Engineering for Shift Staff
- At least 6 to 15 years of experience in DCU/ BBU refinery plant
- A Minimum of 7 years’ experience in plant operation including training, of which at least 3 years should be in an applied position.
- Complete understanding of all refinery processes and utility systems.
- Maintains awareness of safety concerns and communicates these to personnel.
- Ensure all site personnel are following HSE procedures.
- Attends daily safety tool box talks and monthly safety meetings.
- Tests fire alarm function on weekly basis and announces emergency status if required.
- Countersigns all instrument related permit to work applications.
- Operates and controls the process within the operating envelope to ensure that the production plan and product specifications are met.
- Conducts initial panel checks to verify and understand current operating conditions and activities to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation.
- Takes critical operating parameter readings from DCS and reports out of limits parameters.
- Carries out process start up, shut down and other activities whilst adhering to applicable approved procedures.
- Analyzes information and makes adjustments quickly and effectively during abnormal conditions to ensure safe operations.
- Analyzes sample results and makes changes as required.
- Reports DCS and instrument faults.
- Executes process optimization instructions from shift team leader and shift superintendent.
- Communicates as needed with field operator, shift team leader, maintenance, and up and down stream process areas and others as required.
- Attends the shift team leader's daily unit status meeting.
- Uses a logical troubleshooting methodology to solve process control related problems.
- Troubleshoots process and process control problems.
- Contributes to solving process and process control problems.
- Maintains, reinforces, and extends job skills through training and application of training. Shares knowledge and experience to support shift team goals.
- Coaches and mentors new hires and others.
- Continually seeks to improve self.
- Acts as a Shift Team Leader if required.
