We are currently looking for Shift Team Leaders for one of our major clients to be based in Sohar, Oman.

Their refineries at Sohar and Muscat, as well as aromatics and polypropylene production plants in the Sohar complex, provide fuels, chemicals and feedstock to Oman and to the world.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Takes charge of all operation activities in A-6100/A-6900 (Feedstock and Slops/Flare Facilities), A-6200 (Product and Components), A-6300 (Tank Truck Loading), A-6500 (Waste Water Treatment), and A-3800 (Sulfur Granulation & Package) and Supervises the activities of the operators in accordance with Daily Operation Guide from TSD and DOB during shift working hours. Reacts to emergencies in an organized manner according to the operating procedures. Trains shift operators and enhance the capabilities of shift operators through training program.

DUTIES:

Strategic
- Prepares manpower coverage plan.

Operational
- Take charge of all normal operation activities and emergency responses during shift working hours.
- Oversees Control Operator’s activities and ensures all process units and all products meet the requests of Daily Operation Guide and DOB
- Monitors and ensures all processes and equipment are operating within the safety and environment margin.
- Reviews logs books or TOB and DOB and follows up on jobs to be done and outstanding jobs in process. Identifies trends and movements in readings and logs.
- Liaise with Product Planning and Scheduling Department and On-site Shift Foremen for process feeds and products rundowns.
- Follows-up on problems identified at commencement of shift or on continuing process problems identifying any action to be taken and initiating actions to overcome situation.
- Prepares maintenance work request and authorizes work permits and vessel entry permit for both hot and cold work.
- Refers process anomalies or non-routine events to Area Superintendent/ Shift Superintendent.
- Carries out a physical inspection of plant reviewing situation on the plant with operators. Make sure all process equipment including spares and safety/ environment equipment and personal protective equipment are ready for use.
- Prepare shift operator training program.
- Organize and conduct dry training for the appropriate and prompt response to emergencies.
- Checks and confirms blind lists prepared by Operation Coordinator.
- Checks and reviews prepared procedures for newly installed equipment.
- Approves the leave request of shift operators and assigns substitutes for the vacancies.
- Undertakes duties such as fire and safety training on a regular basis.
- Arrange resources for his team such as PPE, Tools & Checklists, etc.
- Maintains a high degree of housekeeping during the shifts.

People Management
- Provides work direction to Control & Field Operators.
- Trains and oversees the development of shift operators through on-the-job training programs.
- Liaises on periodic basis with TSD, PPSS, and Safety department personnel
- Liaises on regular basis with Maintenance staff, Occasionally with contractors/ vendors

Requirements

- Diploma in Chemical Engineering or related Science or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 10 years of operations experience in Offsite including Terminal Supervision with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in lead position
- Strong background of Quality and Safety standards and procedures.
- Good knowledge of instruments, electrical and rotating equipment.
- Working knowledge with DCS/ PLC control system operations
- Dedication to safe work and environmental responsibility.
