Employment: Full Time

The Sonographer (Technologist II - Sonographer) participates in all activities contributing to the development of the Invasive and Non Invasive Cardiology services including but not limited to: Cardiovascular Information system build, formulation of policies and procedures relating to Cardiology services, assisting the hospitals education specialists with development of orientation and continuing education requirements for Sonography Technologists. The Sonographer provides specialist technical expertise for the Ultrasound Imaging services, providing imaging for pediatrics on a referral basis, and for medical research.

Reports Directly To: Manager - Cardiac Noninvasive Services

KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
* Ensures the ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles of imaging are applied to the examination.
* Performs specialized diagnostic interventions, which are individualized according to the patient's need.
* Participates in the training and development of new employees on equipment and procedures applicable to the area of operations, maintaining alignment with the department's and Sidra's training objectives and plans.
* Assesses learning needs. and professional capabilities related to the specialty area and individual staff assigned in that area
* Plans, delivers and evaluates clinical education, grounding strategies in adult education theory and evidence based practice
* Designs, delivers, assesses, evaluates and continuously improves learning (including e-learning) in line with identified needs and planned outcomes
* Promotes and works collaboratively in a team environment to achieve planned outcomes
* Supports the assessment of clinical competence and audits compliance with Sidra standards of care
* Documents and reports all clinical education activities against policy and compliance standards including progress and potential problems
* Participates in standby and on call staffing for the Cardiology Imaging service, as appropriate for education, training and experience.
* Provides support and relief for Cardiology department supervisors.
* Ensures systems and standards that promote patient safety and safe practices for delivering patient care for the modality are adhered to as directed.
* Provides ultrasound modality expertise in reference to the ultrasound service,
* Assists in the maintenance and development of the Ultrasound Service.
* Assists in the preparation of departmental and organizational policies, procedures, standards and regulations.
* Ensures compliance with departmental and organizational policies, procedures, standards and regulations.
* Maintains accurate and concise records of all imaging received by the patient using the appropriate systems.
* Maintains a high level of expertise in managing faults/issues effectively to guarantee the safe operation of the ultrasound equipment.
* Ensures optimal utilization of resources.
* Implements quality improvement initiatives.
* Participates in competency assessment of junior technicians and students
* Participates in mandatory training.
* Practices continual professional development to ensure maintenance of professional licensure and certifications.
* Monitors and maintains stock levels for consumables.
* Adheres to and ensures compliance with radiation safety, protection and MRI safety policies, ensuring associated codes of practice, and taking appropriate action where non-compliance is evident.
* Attends divisional meetings and other meetings as appropriate.

Requirements

* Bachelor's Degree in diagnostic medical sonography or Ultrasound or related field.
* 5+ Years Cardiac Ultrasound/ECHO Experience in a North American Academic Institution or equivalent in UK, Republic of Ireland, EU States, South Africa, Australia or New Zealand
* Extensive functional knowledge and 3+ year's western academic medical center clinical experience in cardiac ultrasound/ECHO imaging with particular emphasis on clinical cardiac physiology.
* EACVI or equivalent (Echocardiography in Congenital heart disease)

Certification within one year of employment in the following:
* Basic Life Support
* Advanced Cardiac Life Support
* Paediatric Advanced Life Support

* Evidence of ongoing professional and personal development
* Demonstrated knowledge of clinical cardiac physiology
* Demonstrated skills required for performing Dobutamine stress echocardiography
* Demonstrated ability to perform and report adult and Pediatric transthoracic echocardiograms
* Demonstrated ability to interpret echo and Doppler data with written report of findings
* Demonstrated knowledge and experience of Radiology Information Systems (RIS), Picture Archiving Communications Systems (PACS), Cardiovascular Picture Archiving Communications Systems (CPACS), and CVIS(Cardiovascular information systems)
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
* Fluency in written and spoken English
