We are now recruiting a number of experienced Consultants, Acute/Internal Medicine to join our Hospital Medicine Programme.

The ideal candidates will have excellent clinical ability, highly developed and effective communication skills will be attuned politically in order to navigate across departments, and genuinely be able to operate as a team player.

These are unique opportunities for skilled Internal Medicine Physicians, ideally with a background in Hospitalist medicine or Acute Medicine, to join HMC in newly created Consultant positions in an emerging specialty.

Our vision is to develop a fully integrated high quality care, 7 day a week / 24 hour a day service for hospitalized patients. Its purpose is to improve flow from admission to discharge to ensure the best possible clinical outcomes for patients with the least complications through direct Consultant-Delivered care.

The inpatient internal medicine consultant will evaluate patients who are considered for admission and decide whether to admit, refer to ambulatory care pathways, or assess and discharge. The Internist will integrate the recommendations of other physicians/ sub-specialists who are involved in the care of the patient.

The successful candidates will play an important role in establishing working practices and pathways based on best practices and evidence based medicine, with the ED, the Medical Intensive Care Unit, step down unit or high dependency care, and acute medical care. Special interests, sub-specialty training and special talents and/or procedural skills are welcome and can be further developed and utilized for the care of the hospitalized patient.

This is a great opportunity for experienced Consultants or Senior Consultants and the role will involve at least 60% clinical work, exclusively with in-patients.

Requirements

Applicants trained in the USA should be certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Additional ABIM Focused Practice in Hospital Medicine (FPHM) qualification is highly desirable.

Applicants trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT in Acute Medicine or General Internal Medicine.

Ideal candidate would have proven experience in leading and improving Inpatient Quality.

Ideal candidate would demonstrate evidence of his or her ability to effectively deal with rapid change and varying responsibilities.

In addition we ask that Senior Consultants have held a Consultant post for a minimum of six consecutive years and have teaching, research and administrative experience.
