Primary Purpose of the Position:

The Director, Student and Enrollment Services is accountable for enrollment management. The Director is also responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining student policies and processes. A crucial aspect of this responsibility is ensuring that the academic standards and processes of the University of Calgary are maintained while providing the necessary support mechanisms to meet the needs and realities of the local environment.

The incumbent establishes the team goals, monitors progress, motivates and mentors staff, and facilitates and fosters positive relations and team work, all focused on student success. This position is responsible for the management of staff on the Student Services team, including recruitment, hiring, training, performance reviews, and discipline of staff. The incumbent is also responsible for managing and creating a highly effective customer service office that focuses on meeting the needs of both current and prospective students.

The Director, Student and Enrollment Services formulates and manages procedures to ensure the efficient operation of admission, registration, student records, advising, scheduling, grade collection, student experience and counselling functions at UCQ. This position advises and assists in the development of relevant policies and procedures for student-related activities. Close coordination with the appropriate student-related offices and officers at the University of Calgary on the interpretation and applications of policies and rules are essential. The Director works closely with the Associate Dean of Academic Programs in regards to local and University of Calgary academic institutional policies.

The Director, Student and Enrollment Services plays a central role in soliciting and managing scholarship and sponsorship opportunities provided by sponsoring agencies, the State of Qatar and other organizations both in the public and private sectors. The Director is the key liaison between UCQ and the scholarship departments of these various agencies and formulates policies and procedures to ensure that the needs of the sponsoring agencies are fulfilled and that open lines of communication are maintained to ensure efficient operation of the scholarship and sponsorship programs. The Director ensures that UCQ staff are aware of sponsorship and scholarship opportunities and associated requirements and that the information is provided to prospective and current students.

The incumbent participates in the overall strategic planning for organization and in particular for the development of the strategic direction of the Student and Enrollment Services. They are also responsible for the yearly departmental budget.

Requirements

Qualifications Requirement:

• A Master’s degree with at least 10 years’ experience in a senior student administrative position at a post-secondary institution
• Ability to work productively in a framework of operations that fully respects the laws, culture and religion of Qatar
• Ability to work in a rapidly changing work environment
• Proficient in the use of computers, including the Microsoft Office suite of products
• Proficient in the use of administrative computing systems relevant to student administration such as PeopleSoft
• Understanding of technologies appropriate to learning support programs
• Understanding of university academic programs, policies and regulations
• A demonstrated capacity to develop and maintain strong student-centered services
• Strong interpersonal skills relevant to the development and maintenance of the relationships essential in a collaborative work environment
• Strong analytical skills with a demonstrated ability to review and, streamline processes and formulate appropriate policies
• Proven supervisory and management skills
• Experience in budget forecasting and development
• Previous experience in the administration of student and learning support programs
• Previous experience in an international setting is desirable
