Environment Specialist (QF R&D)

Job description / Role

- Act as QF HSSE’s focal point for environmental compliance within the QF R&D organization
- Assist the HSSE Head of Environment and QF R&D staff with the implementation of the QF R&D Environmental Compliance Plan
- Ensure that the QF R&D complies with applicable national and international requirements, standards, approved codes of practice and guidance for environmental protection
- Ensure that an appropriate Environmental Compliance Plan, the scope of which includes all the systems and activities (e.g., air quality, storm water, wastewater, hazardous waste management, pollution prevention, solid waste management, etc.) that affect the environment and safety, is established and implemented for QF R&D
- Assist with the implementation of environmental strategies and action plans that drive corporate sustainable development including: pollution prevention, waste minimization, recycling, environmental health, conservation, and renewable energy
- Work proactively with QF R&D staff to establish and maintain a system that promotes a culture of environmental protection and compliant working practices across the organization
- Ensure that persons performing tasks in QF R&D that have or can have significant impact on safety or the environment, and relate to legal and other requirements, are competent to do those tasks
- Promote and raise awareness, at all levels of the organization, of the impact of environmental issues and of ethical and social responsibility
- Ensure that sub-contractors conducting activities, including providing items and services that affect or may affect environmental quality, carry out work in accordance with endorsed QF HSSE and QF R&D environmental procedures / processes
- Establish and implement sustainable procurement / acquisition processes to satisfy environmental protection requirements, including cascading requirements as appropriate
- Where required, contribute to budget planning ensuring that QF R&D environmental activities are planned and resourced satisfactorily to meet objectives and performance goals
- Provide a working interface and line of communication with other QF entities and projects for environmental matters
- costs and develop risk management strategies in collaboration with QF HSSE and QF R&D staff
- Plan and deliver environmentally based training for QFRD staff as required
- Identify environmental performance deficiencies and opportunities for improvement, record observations in an issues management process for corrective action and continuous improvement
- Monitor or track sustainability indicators, like energy use, natural resource use, waste generation, and recycling
- Prepare and produce environmental performance documentation including data bases and reports as required by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information
- Coordinate the safe disposal of hazardous substances
- Other reasonable tasks as assigned by the Head of Environment
- Comply with and enforce QF health, safety, and environment policies, procedures, legal regulations and objectives applicable to areas of responsibility to ensure that work is performed in a safe, healthy and environmentally-sound manner

Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline with 4 years’ experience in environmental management
- Experience working in a scientific or research oriented environment (Laboratory, University, or Medical Complex) is preferred
- Experience designing and implementing environmental management systems
- Diverse knowledge of environmental regulations, monitoring and control methods and techniques
- Very good writing skills and persuasive oral communication skills in English, preferably with Arabic proficiency
- Proficiency in MS Office applications
