Employment: Full Time

The Joaan Bin Jassim Joint Command and Staff College (JBJJCSC), provides an outstanding education and training programme for senior military officers. JBJJCSC programmes are delivered in English, up to and including Masters level, which will require students to achieve the equivelant of IELTS 6.5 level or higher. High-quality English language provision will form a significant part of initial education and training and will support on-going student development through a range of interventions, including the use of modern learning technologies and mentoring, throughout the advanced command and staff course.

Key responsibilities will be to assist students in reaching their full potential in the acquisition and application of the English language and technical skills necessary to operate at a senior command level within a joint services environment. This will require the development and delivery of a flexible programme of English language which is relevant to the Qatari culture and the military ethos, and which can be adapted to the needs of the individual student. This flexibility will be particularly important to support those students following a master`s degree or other post-graduate award route. Progress monitoring and assessment in line with the standards associated with an IELTS programme will therefore be essential.

Key Duties:
- Plan, develop and deliver high-quality English language training to adult students
- Ensure effective delivery of:
- English language tuition, including technical English
- Multi-media, interactive learning
- One to one mentoring
- Accurate and timely progress monitoring and reporting
- A flexible and adaptable curricula
- Remedial support and intervention
- Research and study skills
- Culturally sensitive learning materials relevant to the JBJJCSC ethical standards
- Work as part of a fully integrated team of military and academic personnel
- Work collaboratively with the library staff to ensure access to suitable text and on line materials to support the English language development
- Advise and contribute to the on-going development of the curricula
- Demonstrate and embed the Serco values

The Lead English Language Tutor will also:
- Have primary responsibility for the development of the JBJJCSC`s English teaching policy
- Represent the College`s ELTs as a member of JBJJCSC Academic development team
- Oversee the allocation of development and teaching tasks among the JBJJCSC English Language Tutors

Requirements

- Bachelor of Arts in English or ESL, (BA/MA Linguistics related field, CELTA,TESOL,TEFL)
- Minimum of three (3) years teaching experience in English as a Second Language (EFL/ESL) and/or English for Specific Purposes (ESP), of which two (2) years shall be in administering English programs in adult education
- A high proficiency in English and a native English speaker
- Demonstrate teaching skills, abilities and practices based on well-established training procedures and methodologies
- Competent IT skills and modern learning technologies
- Experience of working with adult learners
- Familiar with Middle East culture and environment
- Experience of working with the military
