Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Manage and administer the delivery of the Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Fire protection works undertaken by the site team aswell as all sub contractors, in terms of proactively managing the key project content, coordination, and milestones including, planning, engineering, construction, commissioning and handover under limited supervision.

Problem resolution, in advance of impact on the works and interface with other departments in the Construction Management Team.

To be the significant contributor to the successful delivery of the project through the provision of management, technical, engineering and practical judgement and expertise throughout the life cycle of a project, using the “team” philosophy.

- To provide a safe working environment for all employees, subcontractors, suppliers, Clients and visitors.
- Own the project programme and ensure timely delivery in terms of cost, specifications, and client satisfaction.
- Provide technical guidance to the site, and resolve critical site issues.
- To optimise utilisation of men, material, equipment and staff.
- Be completely accountable for development, motivation and assessment of supervised staff and labour resources.
- Manage, improve and build relations with Clients, and consultants and have the ability to accept and promote change for favourable business gains.
- Control and direct the work of all site based operations
- Close coordination with all departments to ensure uninterrupted progress on site
- Optimisation of all resources with a view to control cost and maximize productivity
- To achieve a ‘right first time’ philosophy on site
- To interface with a multi discipline project team, to advise the team and fully integrate and coordinate the MEP works into the overall construction process.
- To manage and lead the MEP works and sub contractors acting as the facilitator between the main contractors’ project team aswell as the sub- contract works and the contractors’ project team.
- Interface with the client in all aspects of the MEP works.
- To advise, organize and monitor all phases of the works, including, planning, engineering, construction, commissioning and handover.
- Ensure that the works are constructed in accordance with the contract documents including drawings and specifications.
- In conjunction with the commercial team manage the commercial and financial issues to maximize the contractors return from the works.
- Ensure that the works are undertaken in accordance with the project safety plan.
- Ensure the works are undertaken in accordance with the project quality Plan.

H&S
- To lead the achievement of company safety targets and zero tolerance of unsafe working practices and occurrences
- Ensure that the works are undertaken in a safe manner utilizing the project specific safety plan
- To plan and implement safe operations and systems of work including training and induction and ensure compliance

Scope
- Establish the project construction methodology with the subcontractor and the contractors project team.
- Monitor the value engineering, design, and material selection to ensure they meet the requirements of the contract.
- Coordinate the sub contract packages with the main contract works and other sub contractors.
- Monitor that drawings are prepared and are fully coordinated with the civil, architectural and other sub contract works and meet the programme and contract requirements.
- Coordinate all the contract builders work drawings with the structural and architectural drawings.
- Ensure that the works are installed in accordance with the drawings, specifications and other requirements of the contract.

QA/QC
- Implement a project specific quality assurance plan at each stage of the project.
- To implement the company QA/QC procedures and ensure works meet quality standards and specifications

Progress
- To assess progress, productivity, commercial performance and implement action for improvement
- To work with the planning team to develop detailed and accurate programmes of work
- Deployment and redeployment of staff based on the project
- To deliver relevant targets, key dates and milestones
- Instigate the planning of the works and review of progress against targets set.
- Monitor progress of all aspects of the work to ensure completion on time.
- Notify the project team, client and sub contractor of any delays to the works.
- Regular and concise reporting of the status of the sub contract works.
- To anticipate resource levels and ensure the effective selection and deployment of key plant, labour and materials
- Oversee all aspects of the day-to-day management of the works.
- Review designs issued by the professional team to ensure they are fit for purpose.
- Interface with government departments and utility companies.

Commercial
- Ensure instructions are received from the client for additional works, instructions issued to the sub contractor and the value agreed between the sub contractor, contractor and client.
- Ensure all the sub contractors make regular applications for payment and payments are made in accordance with the sub contract.

Team
- To ensure the effective utilisation of any plant and equipment
- Discipline and motivation of supervision and labour
- Mobilisation of infrastructure to a new site, including rest and sanitary facilities, drinking water and the maintenance of the same
- Actively assist and advise in the career progression of all subordinates
- To monitor the performance of subordinates against their roles and responsibilities
- Meet regularly with the sub contractors, client and professional team at site and social events to develop close business relationships.

- Possess core professional and conceptual skills and practical knowledge to handle the project independently and frame guidelines and control methodology to achieve business targets.
- Be able to guide and lead a team of competent senior engineers from various engineering disciplines

- Detailed engineering and construction process knowledge in air conditioning, electrical, fire fighting and plumbing services for commercial and light industrial buildings.
- Outline knowledge of civil and architectural design.
- Knowledge of the overall construction processes and operating practices.
- Experience in the GCC area would be an added advantage.
- Understanding of budget control and management reporting procedures.
- Ability to communicate in English both orally and in writing.
- Planning ability to work in a structured manner and prioritize requirements.
- Knowledge of the forms of contract used in the GCC area, their requirements and interpretation.
- Knowledge of commercial and quantity surveying standards and practices in the GCC area.
- Ability to negotiate and manage contractual arrangements at all levels.

- Developed computer skill particularly in spreadsheets, databases and planning tools.
- Knowledge of local construction and MEP codes of practice and regulations.
