JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Operator - CNC Horizontal Borer
DEPARTMENT : Machine Shop Section
JOB TYPE: Permanent
REPORTING TO: Machine Shop Supervisor

JOB PURPOSE

- To assume the responsibility to determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings and machining methods and sequences to machine components as directed in accordance with customer and company requirements and standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Program, set and operate CNC controlled machine to accurately manufacture components to close tolerances and deadlines.
- Verify machine setup regarding tooling and process to produce components to the required standards and specifications.
- Install, align and secure tooling, attachments and parts on machine and assemble cutting tools in tool holders.
- Load machine control memory with pre programmed instructions from database.
- Monitor spindle position/cutting depth/speed/feed/coolant flow to optimise best productivity, tool life and accuracy.
- Carry out in process dimensional inspections and measurements using a wide range of measuring tools.
- Enter commands or manually adjust machine settings to edit CNC programme, adjust the tool offsets and master datum points.
- Ensure that all job related paperwork and technical reports are accurately completed and submitted.
- Comply with all company QHSE policies, practices and procedures.
- Contribute to the team ethic and perform other reasonable duties as required in support of the business

Requirements

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

- Time served in a mechanical / engineering discipline with a recognised apprenticeship ideally from an internationally recognised service/repair machine-shop/tool-room/ "one off" sub contact environment with 5 years post apprenticeship experience in the Oil and Gas sector.
- Must be able to sling handle, secure and machine complex shaped components to close tolerances. Core skills must include boring, line boring, thread milling, milling, contour and facing head best utilisation, out feeding bars, subroutines, mill drilling and extensive experience of machining medium to heavy components in a wide range of materials.
- Attentive to detail and have a full understanding of ISO & API standards with the ability to read and understand process/procedure documents and technical drawings.
- Must be familiar in the use of an extensive range of precision measuring equipment and have a proven track record in both metric and imperial dimensions.
- Preference will be given to candidates who have previous experience in using multi axis CNC machinery fitted with Heidenhain iTNC 530 control systems.

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS

- Excellent English verbal and written communication, interpersonal, organisational and time management skills with a proactive and flexible can do attitude and approach to work.
- Must be able to work and perform under own initiative with the minimum of amount of supervision and have a flexible approach to the operation and location of different machines, equipment and working hours.
