Job description / Role
The quantity surveyor manages all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, from the initial calculations to the final figures. Aiming to minimise the costs of projects and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality, keeping track of any variations to the contract that may affect costs.
Main responsibilities:
- Prepare and review of contract documents
- Preparation of MEP/ Civil BOQ and costing sheet as per ISO standard and detail price break down
- Review project specifications and subcontracting services estimates
- Seek technical input from involved departments for tender submission
- Evaluation of vendor's technical and commercial proposals and making cost comparative statements
- Calculate the cost of material and labor needed for the project duly incorporating standards of international code, NFPA, Civil Defense requirements and local municipality requirements
- Responsible for researching suppliers and containing quotations for required works within the group facilities
- Review architectural, structural drawings and MEP drawings to undertake quantity takeoff
- Preparation of Bills of Material / Material Takeoff (MTO)
- Estimating and controlling expenditures during the bidding phase
- Support proposal fact finding and clarification
- Prepare response and communications to vendors and document proposal modifications during proposal fact finding and clarification phase
Reporting to: Operations Manager
Travel requirements: occasional travel across the GCC
Requirements
- Degree or Diploma (Mechanical/ Electrical/ Civil) with a Quantity Surveyor qualification (RICS or equivalent)
- 6-10 years in construction and fit outs for malls or commercial properties
