Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Working under supervision from the Principal Investigator (PI) on a sponsored research project aimed at establishing the impact of the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) on the domestic legislation of Qatar, assists PI in carrying out archival research in the field of international and domestic legislation.

Assists and contributes in research planning and development. Assists in compiling and disseminating the research results and deliverables. Coordinates research efforts with other research institutions involved in the project.

Major Responsibilities:
- Assists in finding and collecting the available bibliography on the field of study, and assists in setting up the relevant doctrinal framework regarding the harmonization of the domestic law of the states to the mandates of the CRPD;
- Assists in finding, collecting and organizing the general and the special legislation that directly or indirectly deals with the rights of people with disabilities as defined by the CRPD;
- Assists in finding, collecting and organizing the relevant commentaries to the law and the jurisprudence of the courts that deal with the doctrinal and jurisprudential reasoning regarding the rights of people with disabilities as defined by the CRPD;
- Assists in analyzing the institutional framework regarding disability in Qatar, including national agencies and institutions, educational institutions and government and / or non-governmental organizations, contributing to the diagnosis about the degree of progress made in the implementation of the CRPD;
- Assists in identifying areas or potential conflicts between the CRPD and the domestic legislation in Qatar;
- Assists in proposing alternatives to harmonize the Qatari domestic legislation to the CPRD;
- Assists in writing and/or reviewing the partial and final reports, and in designing and implementing the dissemination plan related to the project;
- Coordinates the work among the different teams from the institutions participating in the project and maintains a single repository or shared information;
- Assists in organizing discussion meetings between the teams and the different stakeholders (governmental agencies and institutions that cater to people with disabilities, etc.);
- Performs other job-related duties as required.

Requirements

- A Bachelor degree in humanities or social sciences preferably in the field of law or any related field;
- Two or more years prior experience working in research and/or higher education;
- Proficiency in both English and Arabic (oral and written).
- Excellent organizational skills, with ability to modify priorities or multi-task while maintaining attention to details;
- Advanced computer experience with bibliographic and legal databases; excellent command of MS Office, and web and cloud based office applications and utilities;
- Previously demonstrated organizational and peoples skills. Previously exhibited individual initiative and ability to easily integrate into multi-cultural teams;
- Availability to travel;
- Previously demonstrated advanced ability to communicate in written reports, professional presentations and journal-level manuscripts.

Preferred Requirements:
- Demonstrated advanced proficiency in written English;
- Bachelor degree in the field of law.
- Academic papers and/or publications.
