Risk Manager - Qatar

This exciting opportunity has become available to be part of a growth firm that develops iconic mega projects worldwide. A newly created opportunity has now arisen within one of our client’s key projects, a mega futuristic city project for an experienced Risk Manager to lead their Risk Management strategy and activities.

This city project extends across 38 square kilometres and includes four exclusive islands and 19 multi-purpose residential, mixed use, entertainment and commercial districts. This is a comprehensive arena of leisure spots, residential buildings, commercial towers, avenues and public ports. This city will accommodate 200,000 residents and 170,000 employees and 80,000 visitors.

Reporting to the CEO and Group Head of Risk, you will develop and manage the implementation of an enterprise-wide risk management strategy that includes all aspects of risk in order to safeguard Company business and reputation from a corporate project perspective.

Your responsibilities in this role will include:

• Develop a clear statement of risk appetite and return for risk expectations for Company as agreed by the Board, and consistent with the overall Company strategy.
• Identify, evaluate, monitor and report on all major risk issues impacting Company compared to the agreed risk appetite in order to eliminate surprises at costs and earnings level.
• Contribute to the formulation and implementation Company strategy in order to ensure alignment to business line needs and objectives and to clarify the business direction.
• Provide risk advisory service to the CEO and Senior Management Team,
• Organise and supervise team including developing and motivating staff, and providing feedback and appraisal to maximize departmental performance.
• Establish an Integrated Risk Management framework for all aspects of risk across Company.
• Develop risk management policies, including the quantification of management's risk appetite through specific risk limits and generally accepted methodologies in order to ensure that various risks are addressed.
• Manage the creation of a risk-aware culture through communication and training programs, risk based performance measurement and incentives, and other change management programs in order to ensure that Company employees are aware of risk and its consequences and in order to shape Company’s future.
• Optimize Company risk portfolio through business activities and risk transfer strategies in order to provide assurance to Executive Management when it comes to risk control and mitigation.
• Attend meetings as requested to address professional opinions from a risk perspective thus ensuring that well informed decisions are made with respect to major acquisitions, investments, divestitures etc.
• Provide input and recommend the continuous improvement of practices relating to Risk Management taking into account ‘international best practice’, changes in international standards and changes in the business environment which demand proactive action plans.
• Participate in new product implementation in terms of IT solution, Operational procedure documentation, and financial implications.
• Oversight of other local Risk Functions and work with Company Group Risk Management.

Requirements

- Master’s Degree in Business Administration or Bachelor Degree in Business Administration plus professional qualifications such as Institute of Chartered Accountants.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in the financial services, real estate or professional services industry with a minimum of 7 years’ experience in risk management/governance
- Experience working with a leading Professional Development Firm is desirable.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Strategic thinker.
- Experience working in the Middle East would be advantageous.
