Job description / Role
We are working on a major Infrastructure project in Doha and is recruiting for an experienced Structural (Bridges) Design Engineer to perform the design review function, with a primary focus on overseeing and managing the General Engineering Consultants (GEC) delivery of the design of Drainage and Highway structures on behalf of the Public Works Authority (PWA) to ensure Programme objectives of quality, cost and schedule are achieved.
Requirements
We want to hear from Chartered Engineer, Licensed or Professional Engineers with experience in the detailed design of structures used in drainage and highways projects:
Drainage: Including associated building structures, storm water detention tanks, pumping stations, culverts, gantry cranes, pipe bedding calculations, thrust restraint systems and calculations.
Highways: Including highway bridges, footbridges (R.C, steel), underpasses, sign and signal gantries and foundations. Lighting columns and bases.
Standards: Need to be familiar with British Standards in general but with the older standards that predate the Eurocodes in particular. For Drainage need to be familiar with the water retaining code BS 8007 which is still a key document. For Highways need to be familiar with the UK Highways Agency Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, and bridge design guide BS 5400.
A general awareness of the main AASHTO guides would also be an advantage, as well as, a good knowledge of the Qatari Standards and Specifications is also required as their requirements outrank the international standards in several key areas.
Software: Ability to assess the input and interpret the graphical output from various commonly used finite element packages and other design tools, together with in-house design spreadsheets etc.
