Job description / Role

• Reads through or listens to material in one language, ascertains understanding of the meaning and context of that material, and converts it into Arabic language, making sure to preserve the original meaning – focus area: English to Arabic and Arabic to English
• Consults with subject matter experts and other colleagues in order to understand specific terminology/concepts and translate them appropriately
• Follows up with clients to ensure satisfaction and understanding
• Read and convert materials from one language into another (English/Arabic) by creating a new text in the target language that reproduces the content and style of the original in different domains, including media, legal, and engineering materials
• Liaise with department teams (as appropriate) to check original texts or confer with authors to ensure that translations retain the content, meaning, and feeling of the original material.
• Edit and proofread materials to accurately reflect language.
• Participate in workshops, training and meetings with department staff to facilitate understanding of participants by translating chairperson written and spoken language
• Check translations of technical terms and terminology to ensure that they are accurate and remain consistent throughout translation revisions.
• Listen to speakers' statements in order to determine meanings and to prepare translations. Proofread, edit, and revise translated materials.
• Facilitate effective communication between two parties that do not speak a similar language by converting one spoken or written language to another.
• Translate messages simultaneously or consecutively into specified languages (English/Arabic), orally, maintaining message content, context, and style as much as possible.
• Identify and resolve conflicts related to the meanings of words, concepts, practices, or behaviors.
• Compile information and terminology about the content and context of information to be translated, as well as details of the groups for whom translation or interpretation is being performed.
• Employ computer-assisted translation and use dictionaries, lexicons, encyclopedias, and computerized terminology banks as needed to ensure translation accuracy.
• Adhere to Health and Safety Policy and Procedures in the workplace and comply to any new work instructions
• Perform other duties / tasks as required
• Uses highly specialized translation software available to encourage efficiency and consistency
• Adheres to Department quality standards established by the Association of Translation Companies to ensure that all completed work follows legal and ethical obligations
• Translates a variety of documents including literary, legal, research, technical, educational, and commercial materials
• May specialize in a particular industry in which he or she has relevant experience or knowledge, such as medicine, the arts, Construction, or finance
• Adhere to Health and Safety Policy and Procedures in the workplace and comply to any new work instructions
• Conduct/organize training of Arabic language to non-Arabic speaking personnel in the department

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher level qualification in relevant subject.
• Fluent in Arabic and proficient in English
• Proficient in contractual and technical terms (in English) to translate in Arabic
• Holder of current/valid Qatar Driving License
• Able to train simple Arabic writing skills to non-Arabic speakers is preferred
• Minimum of 6 years’ work experience in a similar position
• Knowledge of Arabic – speaking, reading and writing
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Packages and in particular Microsoft Excel 2010
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English is essential
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in Arabic is compulsory
• Had perform/conduct training to non-Arabic speaking personnel is compulsory
