Contracts Manager - Claims- High Rise Project in Riyadh

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Supervision Received:
- Reports directly to the Project Manager and functionally to the Country Contracts Manager, KSA.
- Receives guidance from the Project Manager and the Country Contracts Manager. May also receive guidance and/or liaise with the Deputy Project Manager and Project Commercial Manager.
- May also receive guidance from and/or liaise with HQ Contracts, Legal and/or Commercial management team.

Supervision Exercised:
- Will be required to offer technical and contractual guidance to and supervise junior members of the Project commercial, contracts or planning team.

Contacts and Liaison:
- Daily interaction with the Project Manager, Commercial Manager and other members of the Project commercial, contracts and/or planning teams.
- Occasional - Regular need to meet and/or liaise with the Employer, Engineer and Project Manager.
- Occasional - Regular need to also meet and/or liaise with the Project Subcontractors.
- Occasional - Regular interaction with and reporting to the Country Contracts Manager, KSA.
- Occasional but sometimes frequent need to liaise with HQ Contracts, Legal and/or Commercial management team.
- Need to liaise with other relevant Project Team members.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- A very important and integral member of the Project Contracts and Commercial Team. Working closely with and assisting the Project Manager and the Project Commercial Manager with the daily management of all contractual/claims/legal matters relating to the Project including:
- Day to day management of the receipt, review and drafting of all Project correspondence regarding contractual, commercial, claim and/or legal matters
- Providing as required contractual, claim and/or legal advice to the Project Manager, Commercial Manager or other members of the Project Contracts or Commercial Team
- Overseeing and managing a procedure for the prompt identification and registering of claims and potential claims for additional time and/or money due under the Project’s Main Contract and/or Subcontracts
- Overseeing and/or, as required, preparing new claims for additional time and/or money arising under the Main Contract or Subcontracts
- Reviewing and evaluating claims for additional time and/or money received from the Employer under the Main Contract and Subcontractors under the various Project Subcontracts
- Monitoring and advising the Project Manager, Country Contracts Manager and/or the Project Commercial Manager of potential or actual risks arising from the Main Contract, Subcontracts and/or from the performance of the Works
- Notifying, liaison with and as required obtaining advice from the relevant members of the Legal Team regarding key legal and/or contractual issues arising from the Works and the Project
- As required by the Project Manager, Country Contracts Manager and/or Legal Team, liaison with and day to day management of dealings with external Claims, Legal and/or other external consultants for the purpose of seeking advice regarding contractual, claim or legal matters affecting the Project
- Liaison with members of the partners team, including the Deputy Project Manager
- Attending JV Board Meetings and, as required, providing advice to the JV Board on contractual, commercial, claim and/or legal matters affecting the Works and the Project
- Liaison and coordination with generally other relevant members of the Project team for the purpose of carrying out the functions mentioned above.

Requirements

- Degree in Quantity Surveying
- Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (or equivalent);
- Preferably a secondary qualification (e.g. MSc) in Contract Law, Dispute Resolution and/or Arbitration.
- Alternatively, Membership or Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators
- Must be UK, Irish or South African national
- Must have worked for a minimum of three (3) years for a large Contractor
- Preferred age 30-40 years old
- Must have a minimum of three (3) year experience working in the Middle East
- Must have a minimum of ten (10) years demonstrable and clear skills and experience in the contractual (and commercial) management of large building projects
- Must also have a minimum three (3) years demonstrable experience of both preparing/drafting ‘and’ reviewing/assessing contractual claims for additional time and/or money
- Must have good knowledge of construction contracts and terms and contract law
- Experience in planning/scheduling and/or delay analysis would be a bonus
- Proven IT skills including the use of Word, Excel and Powerpoint
- Must have proven and demonstrable ability to produce high quality written letters and documents in English and to give clear oral presentations in English.
