Employment: Full Time

The Utilities Manager is responsible for the electrical, water utility and workshop departments.

• Focus is on ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient supply of water and electricity to all connected customers and the upkeep of the company’s fleet of vehicles and equipment.
• Initial requirement is the setting up of new operating/ maintenance procedures, improving existing recordkeeping and assistance with the general restructure of the utility departments.
• The position requires a stable and strong personality, able to succeed in a challenging remote location with limited facilities and a workforce of minimal skill levels.
• Manages the day to day operations of the electrical, water and workshop departments
• Directs and coordinates the installation and repairs of electrical power equipment, electrical controls, pipe work, pumps, desalination plant, waste water treatment plant
• Scheduling of all works
• Ensures that plant and distribution systems operate at maximum efficiency
• Ensures that all utility services are accurately charged for
• Quality control of all work completed by staff and/or subcontracted labour
• Coordinates materials needed for daily work to be completed efficiently
• Requisitions tools, materials and equipment required for daily operations
• Tracking of daily progress of works being undertaken
• Ensures that work is being carried out in a timely fashion and in the best and most cost effective manner
• Ensure that tools and equipment are properly maintained, signed out and returned to workshop
• Ensure that infrastructure is up to date, inspect facilities, and order maintenance and repairs if necessary
• Coordinate response teams in the event of an unplanned shutdown
• Constant review of systems and processes in search of ways to lower costs or improve service quality

Requirements

• Must have a strong background in electrical power, power plant, workshop and control technology
• Fully familiar with water technology, such as pump and pipe installations
• Experience with waste-water treatment systems
• A problem solver with the ability to improvise
• Strong leadership and supervisory skills and cross-cultural communicator
• Fluent English, both verbal and in writing
• Able to work in a remote environment
• Able to delegate work accurately and efficiently
• Able to up skill and motivate local workforce
• Willing to meet tight timelines that require working long hours
• Demonstrated utilities experience with at least five (5) years’ in a management position
