Position description

We are seeking an attorney with expertise in project development and finance to join the Law Organization of Saudi Aramco as Counsel in our Project Development & Finance Practice Group.

The Law Organization at Saudi Aramco is responsible for providing legal counsel and advisory services to Saudi Aramco's business units, subsidiaries, and joint ventures. The Project Development & Finance Practice Group with Law is responsible for, among other matters, negotiating and documenting Saudi Aramco's project development and project finance transactions.

The Counsel within the Project Development & Finance Group would be expected to:

Lead the legal activities with respect to the development and implementation of joint venture transactions, including the structuring, negotiation, and documentation of such transactions;
- Advise Management and internal clients with respect to Saudi Aramco's legal rights and obligations, project contracts and agreements, and common statutory or similar requirements in connection with project development transactions;
- Assist Law Management and other attorneys in marshalling and examining the law and facts pertinent to legal problems; and
- Liaise and work with outside counsel to negotiate and document transactions on a cost-effective basis.
- The attorney in this position will report to the Practice Leader of the Project Development & Finance Group. While the position is based in Dhahran, this is a global practice and requires commensurate travel.

Requirements


Minimum requirements
- The successful candidate will hold a JD or equivalent from a recognized and approved university in a common law jurisdiction, together with admission to general practice before the highest court of the state or country of which the candidate is a citizen. In addition, the candidate will have:
- A minimum of six years of project development experience (i) in a law firm with a strong project development or project finance practice; or (ii) comprised of a combination of law firm and in-house experience in a corporation handling international project development;
- Demonstrable experience working directly with the clients from transaction inception to completion;
- Hands-on experience with structuring, drafting, negotiating and leading large project development transactions in a 1st or 2nd chair capacity;
- Experience with international transactions and finance principles;
- Experience in the oil and gas, refining, chemicals, power or other energy-related industries (including renewable energy);
- A license to practice law from and be in good standing in the United States or other similar common law jurisdictions; and
- A self-starting, flexible, pragmatic, and commercially-oriented approach to practicing law.
