Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

The purpose of this position is to lead and develop the ocean freight product and its assigned operational Teams to ensure professional and comprehensive execution of import and export production in line with SOP / KPI in place.

Head of Ocean Freight is responsible for the BU affairs of the Ocean Freight product and will work closely with the BU Manager, as well as the Area Head on further developing a best in class ocean freight product.


Key Tasks:
- Understands and ensures adherence to Quality Policies, Standards and Guidelines (according to ISO 9’001, ISO 14’001 and ISO 18’001 certification) and ensures compliance to processes and procedures set in IMS.
- Ensures strict adherence to Code of Conduct.
- Negotiates ad-hoc deals with carrier in the local markets.
- Decides on spot rates for new business opportunities.
- Extends leadership to all Operational Teams and staff reporting into this function.
- Identifies, manages and develops potentials within the product for future management roles.
- Plans, allocates resources and monitors the daily operation, always benchmarking the performance against established SOP & KPI.
- Ensures seamless service delivery by leading the communication and co-operation amongst internal stakeholders, suppliers and operational staff to thereby portray the Company as a forwarder of choice amongst our internal/external clientele.
- Ensures continual improvement in data quality levels on systems.
- Ensures IHT utilization in line with corporate standards.
- Reports weekly client, GP, revenue, tonnage development to BU Manager.
- Ensures timely and accurate administration throughout the Product and assigned Teams.
- Continuously drives improvement in line with BU targets and objectives.
- Serves as a point of escalation for all Ocean Freight related deviations from standards.
- Serves as a “Subject Matter Expert” for all Ocean Freight related affairs.

- Excellent cross functional knowledge in freight forwarding and logistics.
- Excellent ocean product knowledge with tight network throughout the industry in the local geo-market.
- Clear understanding of vision, strategy and goals.
- Knowledge about markets and competitors.
- Overall understanding of business processes and interdependencies.
- Ability to work under pressure.

Requirements

- Graduate from recognized university/college.
- +8 years of relevant ocean freight operational experience.
- Fluency in written and spoken English (knowledge of local language is an advantage).
