Employment: Full Time

Responsible for developing and carrying out the Real Estate Asset Management Department strategy, budget and operating plans. The individual shall lead the acquisition and portfolio management teams in establishing and implementing their relevant investment strategies. Responsible to manage the investment process, deal flow, asset management and successful fund exits. The Head of Real Estate Asset Management will ensure proper asset allocation levels aimed at creating a balanced portfolio of real estate investments that appeal to the investors evolving needs. Cooperating with the applicable team members, the individual will prepare the relevant real estate presentations, recommendations and reports to the Deputy CEO, Investment Committee and fund boards. In addition, the individual has the responsibility of supervising and coaching members of the team.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Developing short and long-term departmental goals, policies, and procedures; ensure to implement the same under area of responsibility for effective operations.
• Provide strategic leadership and vision by coordinating the efforts of the acquisition and portfolio management teams in achieving consistent superior risk adjusted returns.
• Implement policies and systems to manage workflow, portfolio management, pipeline, budgets & projections, risk adjusted asset allocation & scenario models and performance reporting.
• Promote and establish good working relationships with stakeholders and the financial community in general and develop alliances that result in high quality deal flow and proper portfolio management.
• Maximise investment performance and returns for the funds by providing close guidance and direction to team members, and ensure the required risk parameters, reviews and monitoring processes are in place to maintain quality portfolios and provide for prudent investment decision-making.
• Evaluate the demand for real estate investment products by assessing the needs and risk appetite of potential investors.
• Scan the investment scenario and track the global financial markets to identify investment opportunities.
• Validate results of investment opportunity analysis and due diligence.
• Evaluate the fund structure taking into account, marketability, taxation and regulatory requirements.
• Supervise the selection and appointment process of external managers / advisers / research consultants as and when required.
• Oversee the process of deal and fund documentation / agreements being-handled by team members with legal counsels.
• Oversee and guide coordination efforts carried out by team members with Compliance and Shari’a in order to obtain necessary approvals.
• Provide support in marketing of funds as and when required.
• Oversee macro management of certain funds depending upon asset class and investment opportunity.
• Ensure good relationships with third party service providers, banks and fund accounting software vendors.
• Ensure that the company funds meet the applicable regulatory requirements as laid down by compliance.
• Support the Fund Administration and Custody department in the annual audit and financial reporting process for the real estate funds.
• Review the operating manual procedure for each fund to ensure that responsibilities among the service providers (internal & external) are defined.
• Monitor the performance of staff on an on-going basis, set the agreed goals and competencies and ensure that all staff has an individual development plan.
• Assist in identifying the training and developmental priorities of the department and ensure that staff are adequately skilled to meet future requirements.
• Build a culture of organisational excellence by providing strategic leadership and vision to subordinates and promote opportunities for professional growth, development and effective succession planning.
• Provide challenging and stretching tasks and assignments to the team while holding frequent development discussions being aware of each direct report’s career goals.

Requirements

• Minimum of 12 – 15 years of demonstrable experience, with at least 3 years in a similar role handling Real Estate Asset Management.
• Relevant work experience and industry exposure, preferably in the Investment Banking sector or equivalent.
• Degree in Finance, Economics, Banking & Financial Management or equivalent.
• Relevant Professional certification: CFA, CME, CPA, CA is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of the applicable laws and regulations.
• Strong knowledge of Islamic Banking and Shari’a based financial products.
• Excellent understanding of the local markets, current trends in related area.
• Hands-on experience in structuring funds in various jurisdictions investing in a range of asset classes.
• Excellent relationship / project management skills.
• Ability to draft fund documents (private placement memorandum / pitch book).
