Lead Civil Engineering Design Manager (Riyadh Metro Project)

The project team is urgently looking for Lead Civil Design Engineering Manager to lead and manage a multi-disciplinary team of engineering design managers.

Reporting to the Project Design Manager, you will be responsible for a comprehensive assessment and evaluation of the project’s design including design reports, analytical approach, drawings and specifications for a major metrorail project.

The Lead Civil Engineer Design Manager will have a strong technical understanding of the key concepts in civil engineering and be able to lead a multidiscipline team of Engineering Managers. The team includes but is not limited the following engineering disciplines; depot, tunneling, architecture, structural, mechanical, electrical, traffic, roadway, urban design, ventilation, geotechnical, hydrological, and utilities.

Key Responsibilities

The Lead Civil Design Engineer will direct, perform, and manage the Design-Builder’s design for a major project. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
- Supervise a multi-disciplinary team of engineers to lead the management of the design which includes the thorough review of the Design-Builder’s design for this complex rail project. The working includes reviewing the basis of design, geotechnical information, temporary works, permitting procedures, drawings, reports, specifications and all other work necessary in assuring a fully operational rail system that meets all client requirements.
- Lead, supervise and guide discipline-specific teams in assuring the Design-Builder’s designs meet all project requirements including schedule, quality and safety standards
- Program, plan and coordinate all project activities to assure technical information provided by the Design-Builder is accurate, complete and is delivered within schedule and allocated manpower budget
- Contribute to the project by applying advanced knowledge and best practice skills to the project
- Communicate with multi-disciplinary team of design engineering managers including the Systems, Interface, and Operations & Maintenance.
- Review and resolve interdisciplinary design and technical issues to ensure the most effective and efficient design is adopted
- Provides design, technical and analytic assistance in cases where modifications or variations are necessary
- Monitor progress and prepare regular reports for management, addressing any significant variances in technical, schedule and manpower and recommend corrective actions as necessary.
- Work with the independent safety assessor in assuring the project meets all safety and operational requirements.
- Work closely with project controls and contracts personnel in all aspects of the project are met

Requirements

- Degree in relevant engineering discipline
- High degree of technical proficiency in the management of design for Design-Build Projects for complex rail systems
- Knowledge of railway interfaces
- Reasonable understanding of the multidisciplinary interface between railway civil works, systems and associated external stakeholders
- Experience of managing a multidiscipline team of engineers and coordinating with systems and rolling stock engineers.
- Minimum 18 years experience in the engineering field
- Experienced in managing program using the latest computer technologies.

Desirable
- Middle East experience preferable
- Chartered or Professional Engineering status
