Rail Traffic Operations Center Operator Trainee

Job description / Role

Norconsulting seeks an energetic, highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter to join our clients High Speed Control Center as a Traffic Management Center Operator Trainee on a Full Time status.

The candidate will be involved in managing traffic congestion, planned events and unplanned incidents in a Traffic Operations Center and providing data entry and QA/QC for information in the State DOT Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) or Advanced Traveler Information System (ATIS).

Typically works under supervision but must be capable of directing his/her own work, implementing response plans as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and coordinating with personnel outside the facility.

Typical duties and responsibilities of this position are:
- Monitors congestion and incident information using advanced software and a myriad of electronic devices
- Manage incidents occurring on the Rial lines.
- Responsible for contacting necessary responders for incidents as needed.
- Receive requests for HERO assistance from the public and emergency agencies and dispatch units.
- Implements travel time postings, during peak traffic hours as needed.
- Deploy traffic signal technicians throughout the state in response to signal issues.
- Receives and responds to emails or re-directs to appropriate staff as necessary.
- Researches, identifies and reviews planned construction, maintenance, and special events and activities as required.

Requirements

- High school diploma (or equivalent); experience in a position involving public contact and telephone responsibilities preferred.
- Must be dependable and adhere to the required work schedule.
- Upon hire, the successful completion of the Operator certification training course.
- Must be proficient with computer skills.
- Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills required.
- Must have good command of the English language.
- Ability to perform in a professional courteous manner and remain friendly while under pressure.
- Must have an aptitude for geography and maps.
