Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

The position of Rig Operator is responsible for the move, set-up and operate drilling rigs and related equipment to drill holes for mineral exploration. Responsibility for completing high priority items within specific time frames and the flexibility to coordinate multiple activities will be important to the effectiveness of this position.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Understand the drilling plan - Ability to drill blast and grade control holes to proper depth and accurate collars;
- Understands the grade control sampling procedure, including avoiding poor sampling techniques that introduce sampling bias, which in turn will hinder the mine planning operation;
- Ability to operate both manual drill rigs that require monitoring of gauges as well as automated drill rigs that require online GPS system;
- Ability to change drill bits, identify mechanical problems on drill steel rods/stabilizers and assist the mine mechanics perform non-major repairs;
- Be safety minded and establish and maintain a proper and continuous communication method with the blasting team to ensure the drill rig is removed from the blast site before blasting occurs;
- Understand the safe operating procedures of the drill rig to ensure zero EHS&S loss time incidents;
- Will be required to work nonstandard working hours, including night shifts;
- Ability to read, write, and understand EHS&S-related procedures and manuals that will be written in English.
- Move and/or relocate rigs onto site and set them up
- Observe pressure gauge and move throttles and levers in order to control the speed of rotary tables, and to regulate pressure of tools at bottoms of boreholes
- Operate a handheld rock drill
- Remove pieces of stone from larger masses, using jackhammers, rock drill, wedges
- Carry out minor maintenance and repairs, and
- Dismantle and move rig to next site.

Requirements

- Completion of Secondary (12 years education) plus formal Drill Rig Operator trade certificate training.

Experience and Qualifications:
- 2-4 years of related Drill Rig Operator experience within the Mining Industry
- Experience with Drill Rig machine Operation
- Jackhammer / Rock Drill Operator training

Skills:
- Effective communication and listening skills.
- Strong work ethic and be able to adhere to company, policies, and standard business etiquette.
- Good written and verbal skills in English required,
- Self-starter with minimal supervision for routine activities.
- Reasonable computer skills
