Commercial Manager

Job description / Role

Our client, a leading global project management organisation is seeking a Commercial Manager to join them on a multi- billion $USD power plant project based in South Africa.

The ideal candidate will require knowledge and understanding of all aspects of commercial management gained from working within a contractor’s or employer’s organisation to include but not limited to an understanding of contracts, risk, health & safety, progress planning, partnering & cost reporting.

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Administer all commercial and contractual matters relating to specific elements of the power plant.
- Ensure all commercial processes and procedures are adhered to
- Set clear commercial objectives and cascade to commercial team for the implementation of commercial strategy
- Ensure Employers insurance and safety department are advise of any incidents
- Identify commercial risks and opportunities and manage them through to conclusion to minimise Employers liability
- Develop and effective interface with the Employers financial procedures
- Value large and complex variations and claims expeditiously
- Coordinate the management of claims to ensure responses are provided in a timely manner
- Ensure accurate records are maintained
- Become aware and where appropriate apply SHEQ/Zero Harm Health and Safety objectives and procedures to the role
- Become aware of the Environmental Objectives and Procedures associated with the project site.

Requirements

- Post-Graduate qualification in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering or Construction Law
- Membership of a Professional Body associated with Quantity Surveying
- Minimum 10 years commercial management experience
- Strong Quantity Surveying background with some experience of managing a team of commercial professionals
- Good understanding of contractual law
- Extensive FIDIC experience and knowledge
- Technical knowledge in commercial, contract and risk management
- Exposure to large engineering and construction projects
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to resolve problems independently and operate efficiently under pressure
