Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

The Anaesthesia Technician, as an integral part of the Operating Theatre anaesthesia care team, is responsible for assisting the Consultant Anaesthetist and other theatre team members during surgeries

Key responsibilities of the role:
- Responsible for the preparation of equipment and supplies needed to administer anaesthesia to patients
- Responsible for assembling, cleaning and disinfecting the essential anesthesia equipment and other necessary equipment
- Ensures that equipment is clean, sterilized and is functioning properly
- Operates as an aide to the anaesthesia care team, especially to the Anaesthetist
- Monitors the anaesthesia equipment throughout the operation; this will generally involve cleaning, maintaining and troubleshooting
- Responsible for maintaining the record of the anaesthesia supplies used during the operation.
- Responsible for preparing patients for procedures
- Assists in the preparation of anaesthesia for surgical patients
- Uses mechanical and electronic equipment to help Anaesthetists and other theatre personnel to monitor and manage patients who are under anaesthesia
- Provides assistance in transporting patients to and from the operating room in accordance to the hospital’s policies and procedures
- Involved in ordering stocks/supplies and equipment in the department
- Ensures that the hospital’s safety policies and procedures are followed
- Prepares in advance for unscheduled operations

Requirements

- Graduated from an anaesthetic technology course from an accredited educational institution, college or university OR a registered nurse graduated from an anaesthesia nurse program from an accredited educational institution, college or university
- Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate
- Current and valid ACLS certificate

Skills/Abilities/Experience Required:
- A minimum of 3-4 years relevant experience in a similar role within a hospital
- Experience with paediatrics and neonates will be well regarded
- Thorough knowledge of the electronic, mechanical and other anaesthesia equipment that will be utilized during the operation
- Fluent in written and spoken English; Arabic language skills will be well regarded
- Good computer skills, particularly in MS Office
- With previous knowledge in Hospital Information Systems
- Ability to communicate clearly, calmly and effectively
