Architectural Design Director

As an Architectural Design Director with a background in either education, government, or defence, you will play a crucial role in leading and overseeing the architectural design and planning of projects that cater to the unique requirements and standards of these sectors. Your expertise will be instrumental in shaping the built environment, ensuring functionality, safety, and compliance with relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
• Architectural Leadership: Provide visionary leadership for the architectural design team, guiding them through the entire design process. Foster creativity and innovation to deliver cutting-edge solutions.
• Design Development: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop design concepts, schematics, and construction documents that align with the organization's mission and objectives. Ensure designs adhere to industry best practices and sector-specific standards.
• Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date with relevant codes, regulations, and standards within the education, government, or defense sectors. Ensure that all projects adhere to these requirements.
• Budget and Resource Management: Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring that design projects are cost-effective and that resources are allocated efficiently. Monitor expenditures and identify areas for optimization.
• Team Supervision: Recruit, train, and manage a team of architects and designers, fostering their professional growth and ensuring a cohesive and collaborative work environment.
• Project Oversight: Oversee the progress of architectural projects from conception to completion. Monitor construction phases, making sure design integrity is maintained throughout.
• Client Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, government agencies, and other stakeholders. Act as the primary point of contact for design-related discussions and decisions.
• Quality Assurance: Implement quality control processes to ensure the highest standards are met in architectural designs. Regularly review and assess the work of the design team.
• Risk Management: Identify potential risks and challenges related to architectural design projects and develop mitigation strategies to address them.
• Innovation and Technology: Stay current with industry trends and advancements in architectural technology, incorporating them into design processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture or a related field.
• 20+ years of experience in architectural design, with a significant background in the education, government, or defense sectors.
• 15+ years of managerial or supervisory experience.
• Professional licensure as an architect is preferred.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and other design software.
• Strong knowledge of building codes, regulations, and industry standards specific to the sector you are experienced in.
• Exceptional project management skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
