Job description / Role
Key Responsibilities:
Coffee Roasting:
• Operate and maintain coffee roasting equipment, including roasters, grinders, and related machinery.
• Roast coffee beans to the desired flavor, color, and aroma, carefully monitoring temperature, time, and airflow during the roasting process.
• Follow established roast profiles and adjust variables as needed to achieve desired results.
• Conduct quality control assessments, including visual inspection, aroma evaluation, and flavor profiling.
Inventory Management
• Monitor and manage coffee bean inventory, ensuring an adequate supply of roasted beans to meet production demands.
• Coordinate with suppliers to source and procure high-quality green coffee beans.
• Track and document inventory levels, roast dates, and other relevant data for traceability and quality control purposes.
Quality Assurance:
• Implement and maintain quality control standards throughout the coffee roasting process.
• Conduct regular cupping sessions to evaluate and analyze coffee flavors, acidity, body, and overall quality.
• Identify and address any inconsistencies or deviations from desired flavor profiles, making necessary adjustments to maintain quality and consistency.
Production and Packaging:
• Collaborate with the production team to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of roasted coffee orders.
• Package roasted coffee beans in appropriate quantities and formats, ensuring freshness and preservation of flavors.
• Label and date packages accurately, maintaining proper inventory rotation.
Equipment Maintenance:
• Perform regular cleaning and maintenance of coffee roasting equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
• Troubleshoot and address any operational issues or malfunctions promptly.
Industry Knowledge and Innovation:
• Stay updated on industry trends, emerging coffee origins, and new roasting techniques.
• Continuously explore and experiment with different coffee beans, blends, and roasting profiles to develop unique flavors and offerings.
• Contribute to the development of new coffee blends and products, collaborating with the team to innovate and meet customer demands.
Requirements
• Previous experience as a Coffee Roaster or in a similar role is required.
• Strong knowledge of coffee bean origins, characteristics, and roast profiles.
• Expertise in coffee roasting techniques, temperature control, and airflow management.
• Excellent sensory evaluation skills for cupping and flavor profiling.
• Familiarity with coffee grinding and packaging processes.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently, managing multiple roasts and tasks simultaneously.
• Understanding of food safety and quality control standards.
• Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends as needed.
