Our Client is a leader in the steel distribution industry maintaining strong relationships with some of the largest contracting and engineering firms in the region. The company has established itself as a key supplier that can deliver high quality products at competitive prices, on time.

Founded in Dubai, UAE in 1979 and is headquartered in the Jebel Ali Free Zone, Dubai, UAE, the firm grew to become one of the largest diversified building material trading firms in the region.

They are looking to hire and experienced Design Manager to Direct, supervise, oversee, and/or personally executes the design of new, altered or modified improvement projects. Represents the department on related internal matters and represents the company in the selection and approval of engineering consultant proposals and work products.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for providing daily management and visible leadership of the design team
Review and comment on all drawings and documents submitted by the Design Engineers
Expected to conceptualize, design and produce solutions for many business products.
Control and manage the Engineers in respect of design aspects
Evaluate and endorse the variation orders/concession request submitted by the
Design Engineers for Client's approval
Assist in preparing, and monitoring project program to ensure sufficient time is allocated for the engineers to complete their design
Monitoring the need for specialist disciplines to be available to provide input to the design engineers in a timely fashion
Working towards attending meetings on behalf of the design engineers when gathering and compiling information and feeding this information back into the design team
Required to work closely with the Design Team and represent the company in the
preparation of high quality submissions to their clients.
To undertake and support administrative activity affording the engineering team maximum time and focus on the design to meet the Client requirements within the agreed scope of services.
Responsible for storage and maintenance of all design and contractual documents and records
Fully understand and identify customers' requirements
Hold responsibility for health and safety issues
Work with the General Manager to manage the design queue and provide input on short-term and long-term planning.
Encourage and inspire design consultants to produce their best work using their full flair, experience, resources and talents (all within cost restraints)
When outline projects / orders are awarded the role is focused upon developing the design into the production phase then supporting the project team offering guidance and advice upon processing issues
Assisting in raising and monitoring invoices
Organizing and compiling input from the relevant disciplines as input to monthly progress reports being compiled by external parties
Improve efficiency and productivity and quality of product
Ensure design work and marketing material from various teams is compliant with visual identity guidelines, and supports overall brand identity system.
Provide art direction for marketing literature and design consultation to colleagues.
Manage external agencies and vendors and maintaining a focus on positive Client environment
Ensure that Group Standards and QA standards are recognised
Minimizing the opportunity for project process failure
Ensure the design process recognises current legislation, Standards and Codes of Practice, where appropriate.
Also performs the full range of personnel management responsibilities, i.e., selection, performance management, leave approval, employee and labour relations, and assuring workplace safety.
Provide the General Manager with regular reports highlighting progress in the production and delivery process.
Brief and train technical team to ensure that tasks are executed to perfection.

Requirements

Qualifications, Experience and Required Competency:
• Undergraduate degree in Graphic Design or equivalent.
• 5-7 years of experience in Graphic Design, including proven experience managing design teams.
• Expert skills in Adobe
• Must be able to demonstrate familiarity with brand development, and how a brand's core equities are reflected in and supported by communications elements.
• Understanding of and experience in managing complex collateral systems.
• Proven experience with design that creates a strong brand via the web, collateral materials, advertising and other touch points.
• Experience using Flash is a plus.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills are critical.
• Tenacious and determined to get results.
• Commercially minded, analytical and able to identify risk.
• The energy and infectious enthusiasm to get things done.
• Outstanding organizational/prioritization skills, extremely detail-oriented with exceptional ability to follow-up on tasks in an environment of multiple priorities and expectations
• Project management skills a must
• Ability to work well under pressure
• Ability to motivate others
• Strong people management skills with the ability to work in a team-oriented environment and foster a vibrant, creative work environment
