ITM operate and maintain the Umm Al Nar Complex which is situated just off the main island of Abu Dhabi and close to all the amenities of this modern, progressive city. The site is the largest in Operation in the region and is a highly diverse mixture of plant, equipment and cultures.

The Environmental Engineer will report to the Environmental Manager

Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, coordinate and implement environmental Policy, Programs, and Procedures which assure compliance with federal & local government, and site permit and all other regulatory requirements like Environment Agency Abu Dhabi, Regulation Supervision Bureau, and Centre of Waste Management Abu Dhabi, EHS centre and all other stake holders.
- Maintaining compliance with UAE Federal Law 24, Abu Dhabi Local Law 42, Abu Dhabi Local Law 21 and all other Ministerial Decree related to Environmental Issue in the UAE.
- Ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and keeping up to date with local and international regulation and legislation. Leading the Implementation of environmental policy at site and assess the effectiveness and achievements.
- Develop, implement, and assist in the enforcement of policies and procedures to ensure a safe and environmentally compliant workplace for all employees, contractors, and visitors
- Ensure the implementation self regulation and sustainability as required by AD EHSMS
- Monitor and ensure that all the monitoring parameters are in compliance with federal and local limits.
- Maintaining AD EHSMS, ISO 14001, & ISO 9001 certification.
- Developing and implementing environmental management systems to continually improve the impact of the organisation on the environment.
- Promoting and raising awareness, at all levels of an organisation, of the impact of emerging environmental issues, whether legislative or best practice, on corporate, ethical and social responsibility
- Carrying out aspect/ impact assessments to identify, assess and reduce an organisation's environmental risks and financial costs.
- Coordinating all aspects of pollution control, waste management, reuse &recycling of waste, environmental health, conservation and renewable energy.
- Developing and implementing environmental strategies and action plans that ensure corporate sustainable development
- Preparation and management of department budget for environmental related plant functions and ensures spending is managed within the established budget.
- Follow standard safety and environmental procedures and take prompt action to correct safety and environmental hazards.
- Assist in the collection and/or preparation of information needed associated with environmental permit renewals/modifications and resolution of enforcement actions.
- Use standard protocols to conduct routine inspections and assessments to assure continued compliance with site environmental requirements, commitments and procedures.
- Anticipate typical problems, identifies potential or recurring problems, and takes appropriate action.
- Auditing, analysing and reporting environmental performance to internal and external clients and regulatory bodies. Writing environmental reports, assuming the lead responsibility with the company. Being proactive about corporate social responsibility issues and taking action to ensure these are met.
- Setting organisational sustainability targets, and developing plans to meet those targets and oversee their delivery
- Auditing, analysing and collating environmental performance data and reporting information to internal staff, clients and regulatory bodies
- Managing relations with senior management and internal staff. Training staff at all levels in environmental issues and responsibilities
- Keeping up to date with changes in environmental legislation and initiatives including local & international. The Environmental Engineer is encouraged to participate in both company, state, federal or industrial organization conferences or meetings related to applicable environmental topics that supports the station's environmental compliance program.
- Review and update compliance calendar periodically or as necessary to maintain compliance requirements for filings, reports, submissions, testing, permit renewals, training & other state & federal regulatory requirements (including corporate reporting). Develop and manage action plans to address identified issues.
- Work closely with all departments and employees and contributes technical and regulatory expertise and guidance to assist in problem solving. Assist in the assessment of potential environmental and regulatory consequences of any significant change in plant operations.
