Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

Our client is one of the country’s leaders in steel industry. The company was established around 40 years and have been maintaining a strong relationship with the largest contracting and engineering firms in the region.

The organization is looking to appoint an experienced General Manager to be based in Dubai, UAE

PURPOSE:
- To provide a focused support to operational Business Units - DIP, with specific emphasis towards ensuring profitability and efficiencies are maintained
- To lead mobilisation and implementation of business growth within the region.
- To advise and implement ‘Best Practice’ initiatives relating to planning, management and delivery of services to our customers. Measurement and review of processes and services of existing customers.
- Contributes to the growth and financial targets for the assigned Business Stream by taking ownership of the business development activities and delivery of new services to the existing client base, and by regularly generating new business opportunities with prospective clients as required.

Principle Accountabilities:

General
- To orchestrate and implement challenging growth plans for DIP through continuous enterprising and strategic management.
- To ensure development of close relationships with customers, and service provides to optimize business relationships, service quality and service standards.

Operations
- To develop new business and contacts and meet or exceed the targets for the business agreed with management.
- To fully meet and exceed the objectives including cost down, operational culture change, introducing and sharing best practice initiatives, improved systems/procedure and excellent service provision.
- To provide input to Sales Team in the preparation and negotiation of new customers to ensure operational overview and design of service meets with customer needs.
- To regularly meet with key regional customers in support of sustaining the value and quality of the existing business.
- To identify operational improvements and enhancements to meet with requirement of continuous improvement bearing in mind the overall cost down exercise without losing high quality service to customers.
- To ensure that DIP operates at the highest standards in terms of health and safety at all times minimising risk and maximising the safety of our staff.
- To regularly monitor health and safety performance in concert with the Safety Officer.
- To ensure management is supported with efficient and focused admin team to assist them in their day to day activities to avoid delay and ensure accuracy is maintained.
- To communicate relevant issues to management team when appropriate and proactively request support when required.
- Ensure all Cut & bend works within DIP are managed and carried out to company standards and to maintain a profitable margin.
- To develop and implement an annual resourcing plan for each department within DIP, identifying the key people requirements over the next twelve months.
- Provide engineering and technical management support to ensure Best Practice solutions are delivered to all staff and customers.

Financial
- To take full profit and loss responsibility for the contract.
- To effectively and profitably manage the companies branch operational in DIP.
- To ensure an annual business plan and budget is in place for DIP that will fulfil Customer cost down expectations, regional budgetary requirements and profit share.
- To report to senior management any financial exceptions and other information as required.
- To co-ordinate closely DIP Management team to regularly review actual performance against budget and plans and implement action to ensure that financial targets are met.

Staff Management
- To develop and inspire a professional team enabling them to meet both personal and business targets.
- To provide clear operational direction to staff across the DIP.
- To ensure that regular communications are provided to staff on company performance and future vision
- To effectively manage, coordinate and mentor all staff subordinates to optimize service quality, service standards and service delivery.

Requirements

- Educated to degree level or equivalent.
- Proven experience of atleast 5 - 7 years and thorough knowledge of the full range of cut and bend steel products and competitors products within the Steel market. Experience of managing a project independently.
- Sound management and interpersonal skills to effectively provide leadership to the organization and subordinates staff.
- Proven experience and thorough knowledge of the full range of products and competitors products within the Steel market.
- Good quality communication skill (both oral & written) and strong capability to effectively manage client and subordinate relationships.
- Can demonstrate an enviable sales record and proven success in securing business and profitable opportunities.
- A proven network of contacts within the Dubai property and construction.
- An obvious empathy with customers and clients, an ability to quickly develop relationships.
- Knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety (WH&S) practices and policies.
- Good personal organisational skills and ability to prepare and follow up short term plans.
- Tenacious and determined to get results.
- Skilful negotiator.
- Excellent presentation skills both written and oral.
- Commercially minded, analytical and able to identify risk.
