Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

The General Trades Supervisor will oversee all General Trades staff on site. The role holder will direct all visible maintenance, including Carpentry, Painting and General Maintenance for civil and external building fabric and hard landscaping works. The position will ensure that all works are carried out in a professional safe manner and that no works interferes with the contracts main activities.

Structure and reporting relationship
Reporting to the General Trades Manager and line manager of the General Trades Technicians and General Trades Assistants.

Key accountabilities

Customers
• To be responsible and report on the planning and scheduling of man / materials for all aspects of civil work to ensure competent maintenance and reactive repair activities are carried out in accordance with contract requirements
• To review and evaluate technical submittals and shop drawings prior to submission to consultants and clients according to required project standards and to act as a liaison with subcontractors and clients managing any work interfaces and enhancements to approved extra works scope
• To lead the General Trades department to ensure that Service Level Agreements, Key Performance Indicators and customer satisfaction is fulfilled in line with contract requirements.
• To identify and scope additional works, technical upgrades and innovative improvements, to enhance the operational efficiency, contract deliverables, safety and customer satisfaction to improve the Company’s revenue and reputation

Operations excellence
• To monitor and assign work to General Trades Technicians and Assistants to meet contract expectation of performance to achieve the maximum operational efficiency and cost effective operation in conjunction with the Company’s policies and procedures;
• To assist site management in providing scope of work and quotations necessary to prepare quotations and subcontract agreements;
• To ensure QA reporting interaction with other departments of Company ensure compliance is met;
• 24 hour 7 days a week on-call basis to react to contract requirements;
• Attend to maintenance complaints, investigations and rectification works;
• Ensure safekeeping of hand tools and maintain good housekeeping.

People & culture
• To ensure all personnel and subcontractors undertake department briefings and induction activities to ensure all safety aspects of the work are understood by all personnel working on site and to ensure safety standards and procedures are implemented and followed in accordance with contract requirements and Company guidelines.
• To assist in the recruitment, assessment and trade testing of capable civil tradesmen.
• Provide technical support to other staff for the implementation of complex systems or new projects;
• Conduct performance review for Technicians and Assistants;
• Conduct disciplinary and grievance for Technicians and Assistants;
• Carry out 24-hour on-call responsibility for incidents and emergency within the department;
• Perform shift and emergency duties when required;
• Perform and carry out duties as instructed/directed by the General Trades Manager or senior management from the company.

Financial
• To monitor and control expenses related to facilities fabric work to ensure budget control in accordance with allocated contract expense;
• To ensure procurement activities relating to facilities fabric work and sub-contracts are provided in accordance with Company Procedures and Procurement department procedures;

HSQE
• To exercise a personal duty of care for their own health, safety and welfare and for those affected by their acts or omissions; reference SMS GSOP-HSE1-6 Serco organizational HSE responsibilities
• Ensure compliance with the Serco Management System and all relevant business processes, procedures and work instructions to deliver all work with appropriate quality and governance standards
• Ensure security and integrity of all data provided including reporting performance, finance and customer information; reference Serco non-disclosure policy
• Ensure compliance with all training requirements of Serco and ?ensure adherence to these requirements at all times whilst in employment
• Ensure compliance with the Serco Management System and all relevant business processes, procedures and work instructions to deliver all work with appropriate quality and governance standards
• Ensure security and integrity of all data provided including reporting performance, finance and customer information; reference Serco non-disclosure policy
• To exercise personal duty of care for their own health, safety and welfare and for those affected by their acts or omissions; reference SMS GSOP-HSE1-6 Serco organisational HSE responsibilities
• Ensure compliance with all training requirements of Serco and ensure adherence to these requirements at all times whilst in employment
• Report any accidents, incidents, breaches or potential breaches to appropriate management or the speak up process

Requirements

Essential technical and professional skills, knowledge and qualifications
• At least a holder of High School Diploma
• Vocational Training Certificate or trade qualifications.

Essential experiences
• At least seven (7) years of experience General Trades with advance knowledge in electrical engineering;
• Preferably 3 years, minimum 2 years of supervisory and direct line management experience in managing multi-skilled team;
• Experience in employment relations issues i.e. Disciplinary procedures, absence control etc.;
• Ability to compile technical reports, routine business correspondence, prepare method statements and drawings as required;
• Possess good communication skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and work productively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment;
• Strong organisational skills, detail oriented, and the ability to handle multiple priorities;Thorough understanding of all aspects of safety issues related to hospital operations
