Job description / Role
Our client is a prestigious international bank. They need someone You will be monitoring and controlling the Sharia risks, implementing an adequate framework to ensure that the Islamic structures and documents and transactions are in line with the Sharia principles and acting as the primary channel of communication between the business lines and the Sharia Board.
You will report to the head of governance. You will be responsible for the following areas:
* Ensuring that Sharia fatwas are in place for all Islamic products/transactions, and maintaining a database of guidelines, fatwas, announcements and checklists issued and approved by the Sharia Board.
* Carrying out periodic annual Sharia reviews under the supervision of the Sharia Board for the Islamic banking activities of the bank and managing any annual external Sharia audits.
* Assisting the various business lines and support/control functions in developing product manuals for Sharia compliant products and services, in conjunction with the Sharia Board.
* Liaising with the Legal and Compliance department to ensure that all documentation and agreements presented to the Sharia Board are reviewed and approved and that the Sharia governance setup is in line with local regulatory requirements.
Requirements
* At least 10 yrs of experience in the financial services sector with a focus on Islamic Finance.
* At least 3 yrs of experience in a similar role with experience in liaising with a Sharia Board.
* Solid knowledge in Islamic banking operations, procedures, products, transactions and different structures.
* Extensive knowledge and understanding of Sharia guidelines and principles.
* An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Law, Economics or Finance.
* A Sharia qualification would be an added advantage.
