Employment: Full Time

Our client, an Education Management company is currently recruiting for a Head of Special Educational Needs (SEN) for a school it operates from a spacious, purpose-built facility, centrally located within Dubai which follows a Ministry of Education (MoE) curriculum and comprises about 2,000 students and an employee population of 220.

The school is undergoing a concerted improvement programme focused on raising standards of teaching and learning. This is supported by top-level commitment to support the necessary changes.

The main purpose of the role is to lead the function and to ensure that all students with special educational needs (SEN) are making accelerated progress in their learning and achieve to the very best of their ability.

Additionally, the Head of Special Educational Needs will be required to:
- Support learning of students with special educational needs by using a wide range of teaching strategies, planning and providing support for their full participation in all activities.
- Identify and adopt the most effective teaching approaches for students with SEN.
- Evaluate teaching and learning activities to ensure they meet the needs of students.
- Liaise with pre-school settings to ensure the identification and continuation of support and learning of students with SEN on entry to school.
- Liaise with other schools to ensure continuation of support and learning when transferring students with SEN.
- Talk to students with SEN with a view to listening to what they have to say about their experience of education/school. Address any areas of concern.
- Provide training opportunities for support staff and teachers to learn about SEN and additional needs.
- Disseminate outstanding practice in SEN across the school.
- Assist in the effective organization and deployment of teaching assistants and social workers and other resources linked to Special Educational Needs.
- Attend meetings with parents where necessary in order to keep parents informed about their child's progress.
- Keep up to date with regulations and practice and further develop skills by attending courses, workshops and meetings.

Requirements

- Additional professional development in special educational needs
- Skilled at making and sustaining positive relationships with children
- Able to stimulate children’s interest in learning
- Able to work closely with other adults, offering them practical advice and strategies that assist them to overcome problems relating to the teaching of students with special educational needs
- Skilled at developing children’s self-esteem and motivation so that they become resilient, independent learners.
- Capable of planning intervention work, assessing the needs and achievements of children and maintaining appropriate records.
- Previous experience of working in the UAE
- Working knowledge of both the Arabic and English languages
