Legal Consultant for Gulf Region at SAP Middle East and North Africa LLC

The successful candidate will provide legal advice and legal support to the SAP business with focus upon the business in Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Legal support may be required in other MENA countries on an ad hoc basis. The role will include providing legal services to all relevant business areas within SAP including software licensing and support services, consulting and implementation services, cloud services, other cloud hosting services (such as HANA Enterprise Cloud) and legal support to the indirect channel and ecosystems team.

The successful candidate will:
- Report to the Head of Legal in MENA and work closely with other members of SAP Global Legal department together with the MENA sales, commercial and finance teams;
- Advise the CFO and the senior management team on legal issues relating to the SAP business ;
- Complete an induction session with SAP and participate in various SAP internal training sessions to gain a greater understanding of SAP policies and procedures and play an important role in educating the local organisation on various matters to the business
- Act as a key legal negotiator for key deals with SAP’s customers and partners;
- Build strong relationships and partner with account executives and sales managers to close transactions according to forecast demands;
- Understand and work according to the commercial pressures of a high pressure and fast-paced sales environment and be able to proactively follow up on open issues and track progress of action items on a weekly basis;
- Understand SAP’s licensing and service models, advise the sales team on how to structure deals, and collate advice from different areas of the business in order to negotiate appropriate contracts;
- Help ensure that the countries you support are acting in accordance with SAP compliance policies. This will include liaising with SAP’s compliance team and provide training to the business as necessary;
- Provide corporate secretarial legal support for the legal entities in MENA you will be supporting;
- Provide legal advice in relation to disputes that may arise in the SAP businesses you are supporting, engage effectively with external lawyers as required and monitor the progress of any disputes; and
- Provide general legal support to the SAP businesses including legal support for supplier contracts, facilities management, marketing / sponsorship agreements, employment law matters and sales commission agreements.

Requirements

- Degree in law from a leading University.
- At least 5 years post qualification legal experience within and international organisation Experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex commercial contracts within a sales environment
- Excellent working knowledge of contract, IT and IP law.
- Has relevant software or computer services industry experience.
- Previous negotiation experience with leading companies
- Experience of operating in-house at a company an advantage.
- Fluent in English Arabic is an advantage.
- Knowledge of software revenue recognition principles is an advantage
- Knowledge of local laws is an advantage
- Knowledge of English common law is an advantage
- Knowledge of Foreign Corrupt practices act and export regulations and data protection laws in US and EU an advantage
