Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

PURPOSE: Develop and implement, in line with the new IT Strategy, emerging technologies competency including enterprise application integration as a strategic advantage to the Emirates Group, enabling the organisation to provide complex integrated solutions in line with the business growth. Responsible for successful implementation of CAPEX, OPEX and enhancements projects across a highly complex and diverse technologies and work program spanning across all business units in the group. Identify technology trends and in collaboration with IT Strategic Services to define 3 years strategy for emerging technologies, ensuring the maintenance of up-to-date knowledge of technology standards, industry trends, and best practices. Plan, implement and manage technology accelerators and reusable frameworks to drive cost efficiency and improve time to market

Job Outline:
- Responsible for competency development and implementation of a technology roadmap for diverse emerging technologies in collaboration with IT Strategic Services to deliver innovative and complex solutions through the emerging technologies.
- Direct the integration of various enterprise applications into a comprehensive, holistic environment and architecture, enabling the organisation to integrate complex 3rd party and in-house developed applications in line with business growth through the execution of an enterprise integration roadmap.
- Responsible for planning software delivery work programme in the area of emerging software technologies, including new software development and software enhancements and managing system development teams. Assigns projects and work items to software development teams and monitors performance, providing advice, guidance and assistance.
- Take complete ownership for the delivery of the high quality software, including estimates, technical design, programming, unit testing, defects removal, implementation and post implementation and ensure that it is delivered within agreed cost and timescales, in accordance with IT standards and industry best practice, to meet and ideally exceed customer expectation.
- Improve quality, time to market and agility through the development and use of technology accelerators and frameworks. Ensure that technology accelerators and frameworks are continuously improved in line with industry best practices and IT standards, resulting in cost efficiency.
- Responsible for improving productivity in software delivery through the efficient management of the software development staff and use of best practices. Ensure productivity and best practices are established, monitored and continuously improved. Responsible for analysing trends to ensure that necessary steps to update the processes, practices or skills of software engineers are taken prior to any negative impact on the software delivery,
- Accountable and responsible for the availability and allocation of highly qualified software development resources with the support of Resource Analyst for assigned projects. Responsible for the Software technology expertise and competence levels across emerging technologies as well as overall responsibility for the quality of all software development and enhancement across assigned work program. Ensure that technical competency of resources are continuously improved for all stages of software development.
- Identify and implement software technology improvements, optimisation, rationalisation and replacement initiatives for assigned technologies to keep the units operations up to date, reliable and at optimal cost.
- Establish career development plans and training for direct reports and provide appropriate mentoring and coaching. Conduct timely annual and interim PM! Reviews and set SMART objectives to cultivate a culture of high performance. Member of the Software Engineering Management Team responsible for, supporting definition of IT objectives and priority areas, defining Software Engineering goals and objectives, establishing effective action plans in the department to support IT Objectives, assessing Software Engineering performance against IT objectives.

Requirements

- Degree or Honours ( 12 + 3 years )
- Minimum 10 years IT experience with in depth experience in a software delivery role and senior IT management capacity.
- Role holder will have managed large scale software deliveries and or managed an operational IT unit or a large team.
- The ideal candidate will be a strong technical manager with leadership experience.
- Technical certifications in software engineering

Knowledge/skills:
- Extensive knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle,
- Project Management,
- Methods & Tools including DevOps,
- Software Development and process improvement - a technology leader who has broad management experience.
