Job description / Role

Employment: Full Time

- To code Medical Records utilizing ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 conventions.
- Review the Medical Records to assure specificity of diagnosis, procedures and appropriate / optimal reimbursement for hospital charges.
- To code final diagnosis and procedures using ICD-9-CM and CPT-4
- Assist the health professionals for completion of medical records documentation.
- Assist/educate/train the health professionals for appropriate EMC.
- To collect morbidity and mortality data for the preparation of comprehensive hospital statistics.
- Maintain the understanding of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, disease process and surgical techniques through participation in continuing education programs to effectively apply ICD-9-CM and CPT-4
- Adhere to local government policies and CMS guidelines.
- Adhere to confidentiality policy.
- Adhere to Infection Control and Health and Safety measures.
- Be actively involved in the quality improvement activities within the Department.

Requirements

- Bachelor's Degree in Medical Records Administration or equivalent courses in Medical Terminology, Anatomy, Physiology and extensive training in coding. Certification from AAPC / AHIMA is preferred
- Ability to provide cover for extended hours.
- Specific vision requirements, such as close vision, to work efficiently on a computer.
- Able to move between internal departments; However majority of working hours will be in an air-conditioned room.
- Walking and Standing are required as part of the job, however the length of these activities will vary from day to day and task to task.
- Tolerate frequent interruptions and accommodate readily to change work priorities.
