Job Description:

Position Summary:

Responsible for supporting and developing biomedical research laboratory facilities for the Department of Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and for execution of approved research projects involving faculty members as principal investigators (PI).

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Executes research work, which involves extraction, purification analysis and characterization of enzyme/protein/peptide/DNA/RNA by various scientific techniques.
- Expertise in cell culture and in vivo animal research models. Preference will be given for expertise in handling the pluripotent ES/ progenitor cells.
- Perform experiments relevant to the effects of chemicals and drugs on the regulation of cellular metabolism, cell signaling, growth and apoptosis using in vitro and in vivo models.
- Have experience on genetic and epigenetic regulation studies using in vitro and in vivo models.
- Effectively manage and assist in the teaching laboratories and practical sessions of the department concerned.
- Ensuring that the laboratory functions in an efficient and effective manner. Responsible for quality control, repair and maintenance of analytical and research equipment and highlight areas of priority for service contract.
- Project laboratory needs, maintaining sufficient laboratory supply, ordering equipment and follow through on the purchase and delivery of such items.
- Assistance to students on various techniques while carrying out their practical and project work.
- Other academic duties and assignments as determined by the Departmental Chairman.

Requirements

Minimum Qualification:

- MSc, preferably PhD, in the field of Biochemistry/Molecular Biology with 3-5 years of research experience in gene regulations and expression using eukaryotic/stem cell models.
- Candidates with the knowledge of bioinformatics analysis of high-throughput sequencing data will be given preference.

Preferred Qualification:

- Preferably PhD

Expected Skills/Rank/Experience:

- Knowledge of basic biochemical, cell biology and molecular biology techniques
- Knowledge of DNA/protein/peptide purification and characterization, DNA binding and CHIP/IP
- Knowledge of handling basic and sophisticated computerized biomedical/analytical laboratory equipment such as FPLC/HPLC, FACS, PCR, ELISA, and DNA/Protein electrophoreses.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety, radioactive, chemical, and biohazard materials.
- Computer skills for statistical and graphic program data interpretation.
- Communication and Interpersonal skills.
