Job description / Role
The Middle East energy reporter’s responsibilities will include interviewing and developing industry sources and working with OTR’s research team to expand its energy coverage. Sources include drilling managers, service provider representatives, pressure pumpers, exploration and production executives, operations specialists, equipment purchasing executives and terminal managers.
The reporter will be required to establish new contacts and enter each communication into OTR’s propriety database. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to uncover relevant sources in various gas and oil plays and maintain ongoing relationships with these experts.
The candidate will interact with OTR’s reporting team and work with managing editors from the firm’s cyclicals group. The energy reporter role could evolve into analyzing channel-check data and writing research reports.
Requirements
- Extensive industry contacts and knowledge of the oil, gas and emerging shale gas sector
- Ideal candidate will have connections to the energy service sector in the Middle East
- Excellent communication, writing and interview skills
- Persistence and creative thinking for source development
- Ability to develop and maintain new source relationships
- Previous experience in the oil and gas industry or as an energy journalist
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Self-motivated and comfortable working from home office
- Schedule flexibility and strong time management skills
- Ability to work under pressure, multitask and consistently meet deadlines
- This is a telecommuting, hourly position
- Strong verbal and written English skills required
- Resides in the Middle East
