Piping Engineer

Accountable for the study, design, specification and detailed design of conventional piping systems, units or facilities within the Piping engineering and design discipline. Carries out varied engineering assignments requiring general familiarity with the relevant discipline and knowledge of reciprocal effects on other disciplines. Evaluates technical documents and proposes solutions based upon industrial standards and practical experience. Works unaided to develop/adapt drawings, document and databases based upon a combination of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments. Difficult, complex or unusual predicaments are usually left to more senior engineers. Supervises and advises less experienced engineers from time to time.

Duties


- Able to execute the full range of tasks requiring application of standard piping engineering techniques and procedures such as preparation of material specifications, isometrics, general and piping arrangement drawings, assist with drawings and various other piping documents.
- Experienced user of process piping systems and tools for calculations and design such as CAESAR II and SpoolGen.
- Prepare/adapt new or existing drawings and documents for project specific aims. Supervise, check and validate drawings and documents prepared by others.
- Examine, interpret and apply codes, standards and specifications to the work for unconventional systems. Make engineering conclusions based upon the review, in consultation with more senior engineers.
- Review vendor technical and commercial quotations for conventional applications and make vendor recommendations based upon best overall value - technical suitability, material price, installation costs, and operational costs.
- Work within a 2D / 3D model environment to produce project specific documents
- Be the data / document owner for own scope, and supervise others in their data and document management practices.
- Identify and communicate impacts of own work, or that of an assigned team, on other disciplines. Interface regularly with other disciplines.
- Deliver cross-function deliverables to include technical evaluations, engineering requisitions, proposals and estimates for complex systems within own discipline.
- Contribute to project and/or departmental meetings, technical reviews, safety reviews.
- Demonstrate time management and budget awareness through management of blocks of engineering hours encompassing multiple tasks/deliverables.
- Improve management skills to include scheduling and budgeting hours for own work and direct reports and by working to broader procurement budgets.
- Assume other duties as may be required by the company from time to time.



Education and Skills


- BSc / BEng or equivalent engineering degree from an accredited university.
- 8+ years post graduate work experience in an engineering consultancy or EPC company within the oil and gas industry.
- Must demonstrate familiarity with discipline specific codes and standards to include ASME, API and ANSI.
- Experience with the extraction of isometrics and preparation of MTO via 2D and 3D modelling packages such as PDMS and PDS.
- Must have ability to design non-critical piping for primary and secondary lines.
- Some site based construction and commissioning experience is an advantage.
