Atkins has been established in the Gulf for over 40 years, having first carried out design and supervision commissions in the Gulf area in 1967. The regional head office (Dubai) was established in 1979.

We provide a full range of design, engineering and project management services for buildings, transportation and other infrastructure programmes

Atkins in the Middle East now employs around 2,000 staff serving Gulf clients across all market sectors from offices in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Doha, Dubai, Jeddah, Kuwait City, Manama, Muscat, Riyadh, Sharjah.

Due to continued growth our UAE Property Business are looking to recruit an Principal Structural Engineer to be based in Dubai.

- Lead the development of technical excellence within a Design Group under the auspices of the Design Director and DCD Operations Director;
- Manage the Design Group’s transition to a Revit (BIM) design environment, and adoption of the Atkins Design Principles;
- Take responsibility for commercial management and technical quality of all projects within a Design Group/Project Team;
- Lead in the development of the use of the Bangalore GDC for the technical design of projects
- Ensure that a Design Group works in an integrated and innovative manner that positively contributes to the core principles and the policies set by the Design Centre Dubai Management Team;
- Ensure that the Design Groups comply with Atkins QA/QC (BMS) procedures and facilitate the implementation of these procedures;
- Identify technical training, development and support system requirements to the Design Director;
- Manage ITTO Proposals (as directed by the Design Director or DCD Operations Director);
- Support business decisions taken by the Design Director or Head of Design Operations
- Lead in all aspects of workload delivery, regardless of task; setting an example of effective team working
- Collaborative and able to work across regional and business boundaries; integrates with other Design Groups and disciplines
- Understands the importance of accuracy and has high attention to detail
- Customer focused, passionate about exceeding the requirements of internal and external stakeholders
- Develops considered and innovative solutions in close collaboration with other specialist and design groups and prepare these for Detailed Design Development in the India GDC
- A confident presenter of concept designs
- Demonstrate excellent planning and time management skills
- Adaptive influencing skills, demonstrating tact, diplomacy, persuasion and the courage to challenge.

Manage, conduct or report on a Design Group’s performance with respect to:
- Productivity (As defined by the DCD Operations Director) and Design Cost
- Training
- ITTO Budgets and Cost of Deliverables
- Non Productive Budgets
- Discipline
- Performance Reviews (PDR)
- Leave

Requirements

- Degree qualified (as a minimum) in a relevant discipline
- Minimum 12 years post graduate experience
- Member of a Chartered institution (or equivalent) with associated relevant experience
- Complete familiarity with all steps of the industry design process from pre concept to tender/contract documentation
- Developed technical knowledge of Structural Engineering of Building-Type Projects, with particular reference to Structural Steelwork, Structural Concrete and associated Structural Analysis and Design/Detailing Software
- Excellent team management and communication skills
- Commercial awareness
