Project Engineer - Subject to Contract Award

Reporting to: Senior Engineer (Project)

Division / Function: IFS

Location: Abu Dhabi

Key purpose

The Project Engineer is responsible for the on-site delivery of project services across the FM contract. The Project Engineer will lead the technical project team consisting of tradesmen, assistants and sub-contractors from the Estates Department including other key support staff providing guidance and direction as required. The position will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Serco technical delivery standards, risk mitigation and achievement of contractual targets of quality, safety and service.

- The Project Engineer reports to the Senior Project Engineer

Based on the specific requirement of the role

Key accountabilities

Reporting to the Senior Project Engineer, key responsibilities will include:

- Coordination of all building related project deliverables across the contract.
- Receive project requirements from clients and stakeholder and develop these into schemes and specifications.
- Survey existing installations and produce recommendations for improvement.
- Produce programmes of work and construction phase plans.
- He/she will be responsible for managing the resources appropriately to ensure that tasks are carried out in line with the specification and programme.
- Will be required to liaise and negotiate with any relevant 3rd party professional engineers as required.
- Specify materials and control costs within budget.
- Meet the Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) deliverables as per the contract Service Level Agreements (SLA's).
- Liaise with sub-contractors and negotiate proposals.
- Production of progress reports, O&M documentation.
- Deputise for, and undertake other tasks as directed by the Senior Project Engineer.

- To comply with the organisation's QHSE policies and procedures at all times.
- Fully support the Snr Project Engineer & QHSE Managers in the delivery of the project service for QHSE compliance, policies, procedures and systems that support a safe and professional work place and ethics.
- To work safely at all times and to report all hazards and incidents.
- To actively participate in all QHSE training, programs, audits and inspections, as necessary.
- To exercise a personal duty of care for your own health, safety and welfare and to that of all others.
- To lead by example and ensure to protect the environment by conservation of electricity, water and other natural resources, and minimising generation of waste.

Information Security Responsibilities

- To protect information assets including both electronic and paper based from all threats whether internal, external, accidental or deliberate.

Requirements

Essential technical and professional skills, knowledge and qualifications

Background

- The Project Engineer should have proven experience in civil/construction related delivery, with emphasis on building projects.
- He/she should be a highly motivated, flexible individual with energy and drive. Have good planning abilities, an analytical approach to problem solving and a good knowledge of built environment technology. Additionally he/she must be conversant with the requirements of all current relevant legislation.
- The Project Engineer must be a good communicator at all levels with the ability to demonstrate strong technical knowledge, advice, and guidance to support the client and key stakeholders. He/she must have had extensive experience of delivering construction/refurbishment projects.

Knowledge

- Holder of a degree or diploma in a relevant engineering discipline (Engineering)
- Five years in a supervisory role
- Good knowledge and understanding of all building services/systems
- Ability to read and understand specification and drawings in relation to modification, refurbishment and construction works.
- Demonstrate good man-management, leadership and interpersonal capability
- Working knowledge of ADCD and municipality building regulations.

Skills

- Strong technical skills in all aspects of project service delivery
- Computer literate - MS Office, Excel, MS Projects etc.
- CAD experience would be an advantage.
- Proven analytical capability and problem-solving skills
- Negotiation skills
- Excellent communicator and motivator at multi levels

Experience

- Ten years plus in construction/refurbishment services
- Experience of working with multi-trade, multi-national teams

Additional / specific features of the role

- Ensure compliance with the Serco Management System and all relevant business processes, procedures and work instructions to deliver all work with appropriate quality and governance standards.
- Ensure security and integrity of all data provided including reporting performance, finance and customer information; reference Serco non-disclosure policy.
- To exercise personal duty of care for their own health, safety and welfare and for those affected by their acts or omissions; reference SMS GSOP-HSE1-6 Serco organisational HSE responsibilities.
- Ensure compliance with all training requirements of Serco and ensure adherence to these requirements at all times whilst in employment.
- Report any accidents, incidents, breaches or potential breaches to appropriate management or the speak-up process.
- To perform any other reasonable duty as instructed by Serco management.
