Senior Academic Specialist

Job description / Role

Purpose: Instruction of both the lecture and lab sections of Biology courses.

Duties
- Use Black Board as a learning management system to conduct the course.
- Teach courses in terms allotted by the Department of Biology, using diverse teaching methods.
- Maintain records for attendance, submit grades, and stay current with planned course outcomes and assignments.
- Meet instructional design and delivery expectations that also includes designing learning activities and materials that facilitate student engagement, active learning, critical thinking, and achievement of course learning outcomes.
- Meet service expectations that includes providing support for academic advising activities and/or tutoring, serving on college committees and workgroups, and providing service to the community.
- Hold regular office hours

Requirements

Minimum Requirements
- Master's degree in biology or in a related field with 18 hours of biology graduate coursework.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Experience in instructing students from diverse culture and/or backgrounds
- Skill in integrating technology into curriculum
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate measures to resolve problems while following college policies and procedures
- Demonstrate culture competency, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds of program students, faculty and staff.

Desired Qualifications
- College teaching experience
- Familiarity with BlackBoard and/or other online teaching platforms.
- Experience teaching introductory biology
- Experience with online learning and/or hybrid course delivery, and
- Experience with academic advising and/or student support services such as tutoring.
