Employment: Full Time

Our client an established Power Company is looking for a Senior Accounting Officer.

The Senior Accounting Officer is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting. This position covers the development and the maintenance of accounting principles, practices and procedures in compliance of IFRS standards. The Accounting Manager works along one staff accountant and is responsible for managing the accounting department activities to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including financial reporting, year-end audit preparation, and the preparation of budget and forecast activities, and continuous review of budget vs actuals figures to ensure that each department does not exceed their allocated budget for the year.

The Accounting Officer works in regular connection with the Finance Manager, the General Manager, Banks, Shareholders and the other department managers which require good interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.

Scope
- Management of relations with the independent Auditors
- Interaction with the Project Financing Banks on a day to day basis, to contribute to the compliance with the company’s financing document
- Provide Management Accounts to the satisfaction of the companies’ Shareholders and Directors
- Ensure timely procurement activities, with a good level of control on the involved processes.

Responsibilities
- To supervise and manage all accounts activities of the company to ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close.
- To provide support to the Accountant to ensure all day-to-day general ledger activities of the companies are performed in a timely and efficient manner.
- Supervise all general ledger activities including the monthly, quarterly and end-of-year closing in accordance with the requirements of all applicable Laws and generally accepted accounting principles applicable in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, UAE and IFRS.
- Review the monthly account reconciliations which have been prepared by the Accountant to ensure the completeness of the management accounts.
- Maintain on a monthly basis the Management Accounts of the companies for distribution to the Shareholders.
- To produce the statutory accounts of the companies in accordance with the requirements of all applicable Laws and the generally accepted accounting principles applicable in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, UAE and IFRS and hence manage the Independent Auditors.
- To provide treasury forecasts in order to produce the companies’ cash calls to the banks and their Shareholders
- Supervise and manage all accounts activities including invoices, payments and reconciliation of purchase orders/receipts and billing activity once the project is in operation phase.
- Build up the company fixed assets ledger.
- Prepare and update as and when requited the finance and accounting policies and procedures for the companies.
- Ensure all payroll activities are conducted accurately and in a timely manner in conjunction with the HR department.
- Preparation, maintenance and updating of all budget and forecasting activities in conjunction with the Finance Manager.
- Continuous monitoring and analyzing of each department budgets during operations to ensure that no unexplained variances occur.
- Management of the day to day treasury in accordance with policies, procedures and standards
- Ensure the monthly, quarterly and yearly Bank Compliance activities are performed in accordance with the Facility Agreement and in a timely and accurate manner.
- Participate to the Settlement system and invoicing system implementation
- Supervision and Management of petty cash in accordance with policies, procedures and standards
- Maintain and further develop Oracle systems to meet control and reporting requirements.
- Responds to inquiries from the Finance Manager, Shareholders, Banks and other department managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests and other ad hoc inquiries.
- Ensure a smooth transition of the companies’ accounts from construction to operations phase.

Others:
- In the event of an emergency the job holder will participate in the emergency (response) team as per his role in the emergency response plan, which may include provision of logistic support (such as driving of vehicles, equipment and hose delivery / supply…) to the emergency response team. He/she will participate in emergency drills and if necessary will be trained in first aid and firefighting techniques

Requirements

- Degree in Accounting/ Finance OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
- ACA / CPA / ACCA Accounting Qualification.
- Must be registered chartered accountant
- Must reside in the UAE (preferably Abu Dhabi).
- At least 3/5-year experience in a similar position in accounting related fields preferably within the Power industry or other similar manufacturing industry.

• Good command of oral and written English, native Arabic speaker is preferable
